So fucking goddamn good. I knew it would be great but they exceeded my expectations. The stuff they added was fantastic and really added to the story.

I loved the comic and they certainly do justice to its spirit and vibe so far. Even with the amount of gore (and amazing zombie makeup) the human element is still at the forefront (and hopefully will remain so for the length of the series), and I got a serious gore boner.

Plus, I have to mention this:
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
When he's in Atlanta and he's chasing the helicopter and he turns the corner and sees the sea of zombies, my stomach seriously turned. I can't remember the last time any sort of horror movie or any medium really did that to me. Fuck yes!

Awesome thread but I'm gonna do like Pisscubes and wait it out. I'm looking forward to seeing this on Halloween. I am a patient boy.

Funnily enough, I thought Day of the Triffids during the scene you described, but saw it more as a highbrow homage.

Doesn't the "woke up in a hospital bed and everything had changed" thing also happen in The Stand? I'm sure it happens in a dozen other books/movies. It kind of sucks but that's just the first 2 minutes of the zombie apocalypse in TWD, after that it's meaningless...

Besides, all apocalyptic scenarios by their very definition are going to be linked if one wants to keep the drama somehow pertinent by showing what humans have to do...

And it IS a genre story. The only way it wouldn't be is if there were zombies in the first 5 minutes and then it turned into the motherfucking Love Boat.

One can only agree that the entire zombie thing is getting run into the ground at this point...maybe this series will just be definitive and knock it down.

For me the exciting part of it now is not seeing the comic book somehow translated RE: geek validation or something, it's just having another good show to watch. And then I know what's going to happen in this story and I'm looking forward to it... ;)

Edit: and I thought it was fucking pathetic that in the first 10 minutes of this Darabont totally blew away everything Romero has done for the last 20 years. Romero...face down in his soup, asleep at the wheel. SO JADED.

Part of that second-to-last shot was an homage to Day of the Dead, and then the final shot, pulling upwards, was really nicely done.

I just re-read the first 2 issues which pretty much encompass the first episode and it was pretty close - if anything the tv show fleshes it out nicer - although it's a shame he doesn't use a hatchett like the comic

bring on Michonne!!

on my second viewing. most of me thinks this is far too cash to make it past the initial run of six episodes.

AMC's already greenlit a second season, right? I hope that means something.

That's a good question, one that I haven't heard before...

Yeah, qood query: at what point (RE: the comic books) will AMC pull the plug? At what point does it become "too real?"

One of my favorite points in the comics is when they've established a secure base/society and then must reestablish agriculture. In one minute the producers of this show could educate their audience in a greater capacity than two generations of High School teachers...this shit is VITAL to know, IMO.

Uh...because we're going to face it in less than 10 years....

season two, they'd cover Herschel's farm and finding the prison, cap it with the serial killer bit.

I liked that too.

I also liked that while for the most part you could hold the comic book up as a story board, they kinda built up to the first herd nicely and it had more impact as a result.

All told, me likely - a lot. More more more!
