i really dont have any sympathy for resident evil in general but 4 is the clear standout winner if were even going to go there. people choosing 1 or 2 are being thick or nostalgic or both..

Yeah, it's a good game but it's not even close to the top of that generation. I don't know how that game can hold up with those controls.

I'm trying to think of games on that generation I think are as good as RE2. Metal Gear, Silent Hill and Castlevania SOTN come to mind immediately, but not a ton of other stuff.

And I think the controls are all part of the experience-- like in Silent Hill.
SOTN is infinitely betterm for example

The Nintendo 64 lineup was pretty great. Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, all those THQ/AKI WCW and WWF games, Donkey Kong 64, Mario Kart 64, Killer Instinct Gold etc.

finally finished GK2 today. No work, power stayed on, why not blow through the last bit of 5 and all of 6? For anyone that cares:
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
Most of the puzzles were fine, maybe even a little too easy in places. I didn't think the lily puzzle was all that bad (especially compared to the clock in the bush puzzle), but I missed the fucking phone number in the Ludwig II biography, so I got stuck during part of Chapter Four. In fact, most of my getting stuck had to do with not seeing a part of the screen I could interact with (took a little while to realize I could do something really fucking stupid and simple, like pick up bread). Chapter 6 has a spot where you have to play with door stops, and even if you're looking for them they're not easy to spot.

Story was awesome, but the ending is a little meh. Especially after the perfection of Chapters 4 and 5 (learning about Ludwig II was way better than watching Gabriel stumble through Munich looking for ways to annoy the local hunt club, and watching Gabriel freak out in the Black Forest is great. Love the line about Lord Byron). Like that they leave the ending wide open for future games (which I guess 3 fulfilled), and that the Black Wolf isn't portrayed as some hackneyed evil bad guy, but I would have liked more resolution there. No big final speech, no pleas for camaraderie. Just a final showdown and that's that. Van Glower doesn't get a chance to talk about Ludwig II or why he chose to bite him, other than he was rich. You get the impression he was gay, too, and that maybe he was after Gabriel for more than just brotherly companionship, but that's passed over. Nothing about his dad, either. I feel like it had to end because they were given 6 CDs to work with and no more. Everything before that is great, though. The diaries, the castles, the Ritter family history, the way Jensen filled in the mystery behind Ludwig's madness, his relationship with Wagner, his death, etc. Pretty classy stuff.
Has me thinking I should play GK3, but I can't imagine that shit is any good. Maybe I'll watch a Let's Play instead. Has anyone played any of the newer Jane Jensen games? Do they even come close to GK1 and 2?

Still have those PQ games to get through, but I'd give more of her games a go.

They will blame Sandy.

I've never played an Assassin's Creed game before, and I feel like I'm not really missing much. Am I right?

That happened with 007 and MOH Warfighter and they both proved a disaster in their own way. WWE '13 had some positive reviews as of last night so they can't really blame the storm.

Nah, those games pretty much play themselves. No challenge, bloated and some fucking awful sci-fi conspiracy garbage that makes no sense at all. Seriously, JOFA and Sethboy Dutko could write something more creative and cohesive than what's in those games. The worlds are fun to run around for awhile but everything else is garbage.
