The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec - 6/10

Funny & entertaining, though frequently absurd... I guess that's the point. CG-phobes beware.

I Spit on Your Grave (2010) - 5/10

Surprisingly successful at not sexualizing the rape or what leads up to it despite being in a real big hurry to get her out of her clothes early on, but then the 30 minutes of torture porn at the end clash completely with the rest of the movie, and that's actually the most entertaining part because everything else is way too drawn out and just ends up being boring.

Also, I kept waiting for a cartoon *boink* noise everytime she knocked one of them out by limply swinging a 2x4 at them. lol.

So did no one see Transcendence? It's getting shit reviews but I'm still semi-interested. It's either that or Grand Budapest Hotel tonight, which I'll go in all cross-armed and frowning about but I'll probably love it more than everyone else

Oh yeah - do GBH - I didn't hear of anyone being pleasantly surprised by Transcendence. It seems to be a movie that just sucks, not anything risky or subversive or over anyone's head. Lots of critics were into the ideas/themes and left cold by the resulting shittiness.

he said the script mostly sucked, it doesn't have explosions, its very pretty and cohesive with some good supporting performances

he compared it to john carter except he liked this and hated john carter. i wrote it off so i'm interested to see it now that it flopped enormously. i like being wrong guy..

Settled on GBH. My wife informed me that Jeff Goldblum is in it and that sealed the deal. I'm still interested in Transcendence for sure though. I've heard the 'ol "nobel failure" thing tossed around a bit so there's potential that it could be cool.

FYI John Carter god damn rules and I will watch it again tomorrow

I don't feel the least bit of shame about liking that shit

Like, I wouldn't readily admit that I liked say, the Conan remake or that awful Solomon Kane movie (it's garbage but I love it). I ardently defended Doomsday (the Neil Marshall one) the other day to people who were baffled why anyone liked that movie. But John Carter is MY SHIT. It helps that I love the source material dearly but that movie is not a secret shame or anything.

I find myself constantly having to defend Pacific Rim too, fuck the world
