House 2 - 7/10
Lighthearted and anarchic adventure film with a couple of horror tropes. I enjoyed the well made special effects and especially some excellent stop motion animation. In the middle of the film, an electrician called Bill turns up out of nowhere, is not at all surprised to find a dimensional portal inside one of the walls, proceeds to kick all kinds of ass, all the while being incredibly relaxed and professional about it, then nonchalantly hands the main characters a calling card that says "electrician/ adventurer" and fucks off again.
Moon Trap - 3,5/10
Looked cool among else because Walter Koenig and Bruce Campbell starred but takes forever to get going, has poor pacing, editing, dialogue, and special effects. Boring after fifteen minutes and juts won't stop.

I'm also in the camp that t2 absolutely slays and is better than the original. Also speaking of the original I was watching the other day and I forget exactly when but there's some police chatter when they're in LA that said "we need help at 7th and broadway!" Or something to that effect. That's literally where I live. Just thought that was cool

As for the rest, agree, Terminator 1 is an awesome 8 (maybe 8.5 because of comparatively low budget and iconic designs), T2 is a 9. After watching Aliens recently, it's particularly grating that after True Lies, James Cameron hasn't made one film worth watching (Necrometer et al, not trolling again, just my sincere opinion).
Has any of you seen Piranha 2, by the way?

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
I inadvertently had a fish out of water weekend:
After Hours ('85) - 7.5/10 - I didn't realize this was filmed at the lowest point of Scorsese's career. The King of Comedy had just flopped, and production on The Last Temptation of Christ completely collapsed. He had turned down After Hours previously, so it was going to be directed by Tim Burton - but once he hit the skids, Scorsese picked it up again. I convinced my wife to watch it by telling her it was a romantic comedy.
Enemy Territory ('87) - 5/10 - A white insurance collector goes into the ghetto to pick up a juicy contract, but ends up being chased around the building by VAMPIRES (a gang?) who are lead by Tony Todd. The insurance guy meets up with Ray Parker Jr, who helps him navigate the building, ending up in an apartment with a well armed Vietnam vet (Jan Michael Vincent in a wheelchair - likely because he was too drunk to stand and act simultaneously). I think the only way to watch this is on VHS Tape, or on youtube, which is how I saw it.
Army of Darkness ('92) - 6.5/10 - I was hoping I wouldn't be as disappointed by this as I was when I saw this in the theater - but the constant goofy slapstick gags and occasionally awful dialog still bug me. Raimi let his Three Stooges freak flag fly a little too hardcore, but there's still some great moments.

Yeah spot on man, all in all I enjoyed the film a tad more than you did (think I would rate it 7.5), but I also felt that it was often too silly and childish. Evil Dead 2 hit the sweet spotHunter wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 6:12 am

So the big log that Dutch sets up for the counterweight of the spike trap that ends up
Killing the predator; was that just a dead tree he came across? It looks perfectly cut. I can believe he had time to make his bows and arrows and shit in a few hours but how the fuck did he chop down a tree.

I had to google this guy, and after finding out that John Ratzenberger played a character on Cheers, I remembered that I've only ever seen maybe two episodes of Cheers and they were unfunny as shit.
