sorry man, I don't want to dump on people's favourite films or shows on purpose, it's just that I've always been a huge Frasier fan, and after learning that the character first turns up in Cheers, I was really looking forward to seeing another great sitcom.

Is a mother fucker taking shit about Cliff Clavin up in this piece? I best be dreaming it. He’s in Empire Strikes Back as well.

i cant remember if it was arnolds idea or not but the story goes they did the loudest shorts they could find to get the reaction they wanted to seeing him naked. IMO just let arnold hang that big ole hog we all know he has so as to see eyes boing in and out of their heads then slap themselves over and over with their own shoe

Targets ('68) - 8/10 - Boris Karloff plays himself (but named Byron Orlock) - an aging actor who is feeling like a relic and desperate to exit the biz, while Peter Bogdonovich (Sammy Directorguy) is trying to convince him to star in his final movie. Meanwhile, a Wally Cleaver type guy has a habit of buying guns, and starts down the path of Charles Whitman. It's a Roger Corman production and Peter Bogdonovich's firsts shot at directing after being the film programmer for the MoMA. Apparently he got notes from the likes of Alfred Hitchcock and Samuel Fuller, who pitched the the ending sequence to Peter. Several sequences of Targets had to be shot guerilla style, knowing that there was no way a gas company was going to permit them to film with guns on top/around oil towers.

Targets is totally underrated. The sniper scene is fucking horrifying with how mundane and matter of fact it's shown to be. The fact that there's no music makes it worse.

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
It's kind of similar, except Karloff isn't addicted to morphine, and seems to be doing pretty well.
100% agreed. It's Leave it to Beaver, except Wally has a dark secret he wants to talk about but snaps before he can get any help. He isn't ever angry, just a cold blooded sociopath. It's disturbing and well executed. I understand why it didn't do well in theaters, considering in that year: the war in Viet Nam was underway, JFK had been shot, and 3 other mass shootings happened before the movie hit theaters. Felt too real at the time for any kind of mass appeal.
The Incredible Melting Man ('77) - 4/10 - I should have watched this with commentary (or the MST3K version) because it's extraordinarily boring. The footage is stretched as far as it can go, which makes it feel twice as long. After grinding through what should be a breezy 84 minute horror flick, I started it over with the director's commentary who opened up with "This is not the movie I wanted to make." It was late, so I only made it through 20 minutes, but that made it a lot more interesting. It was intended to be a parody of old horror comics - maybe a Creepshow before Creepshow. The producers insisted on turning it into a space horror drama, and added scenes that weren't shot by the director. What makes the movie worth watching is Rick Baker's pretty amazing effects work. Rob Bottin was also on set as the Melting Man's double for some scenes and Jonathan Demme makes a quick appearance as a victim as well.

I badly need to see this again. All I remember thinking the first time was "low-rent Goodfellas", and I've since watched Goodfellas probably like 10 times and never re-watched this one.
