I thought Blood Oath was great and the new songs definitely fit into the set better than anything off the last two albums.

effigy has those bloated, gassy production values and sloshy vocals which make it harder to penetrate than PFW. it took me about a year of listening to it every day in my pickup truck in my early 20s to and from painting jobs to truly absorb all the syncopation and subtle rhythmic variations. PFW has a more controlled and clinical scott burns production which kind of lays its cards out on the table with relative ease but is less imaginative over the long term. i felt i really had to work to understand effigy... like go in there with a beekeepers outfit and nuclear waste hose to make sense of all that over-saturated rhythmic virtuosity which was the genesis of their style, whereas PFW was a self-conscious distillation of their trickiest banana peels for riffs in a slick adidas tracksuit. i love both very much but effigy was more of a journey in reaping its benefits.

frank's vocals never did sound as acrid as on human waste.

i hate most of what this band inspired but the real deal is so earnest and obsessively insular that i rarely grow tired of it.

severed savior's "servile insurrection" is probably the best directly suffo-inspired album ever.
