His IRL assholery is apparently legendary, however. There's that story about Jack Nicholson getting so sick of him he tied him to a chair and threw him in a pool...
My friend went to Columbia for theater, and Bill Murray came to speak at one of his classes. He got to speak to him for a couple minutes and said he was super nice and completely different off camera.

A Dangerous Method 7.5/10 Pretty good, but I liked the two preceding nu-Cronenberg movies better. KK's untits come out, which probably earned it half a point. I felt like her spazz-performance in the first part of the movie was going to ruin the whole affair, but this wasn't the case.

Mesrine: The Killing (Part 1) ... excellent 8/10.
Revanche ... crime/ drama that isn't over the top with a good end 9/10.

I agree that was forced. I also didn't like the ape unlocking the locked cage with a stick.
But the whole movie was generally far better than I expected. Certainly a step up from most summer hollywood shitfests.

Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil - 4 (2nd viewing)

for a horror comedy is wasn't very funny. I think there were maybe 2 decent jokes in the first 30 minutes and the epilogue is indefensible

a really good premise that should've been given to an actual writer and director

the whole movie is inefficient. take the very first barely decent joke of the movie when they get to the house. they notice all the clippings and think he was a news buff and when tucker has the moment of recognition we think he realizes what they are but instead he sees the coupon sale. good set up and delivery but the follow through "score!" was totally inefficient because it was just established that tucker was excited when he announced the coupon sale. so to simply make that the joke's follow through was not only unfunny but most importantly it was completely redundant.

really mediocre writing perpetuated by equally mediocre direction

it's a store sale that requires a coupon. I forget what it was specifically. 2-4-1 something

I was pretty impressed they could even maintain a watchable story against the odds of the audience being in on the joke... when I saw the trailer I thought it'd be a total wreck, which it definitely wasn't

except the epilogue. the only defense is that it was under 5 minutes but it was still just god awful in every way

I'm just trying to be specific about one of the best jokes, which isnt saying much. everything else is too lame to even bother with.

If you remove the scene when the scene with the neighbor, it is basically a movie for kids. It was an OK movie, but my problem is that it does not really fits in the POTA saga and it kind of destroys the plot and message from the previous ones.

And do they really had to CGI all apes?

The Tea scene.
actually I kinda liked that but it reminds me of something else I thought was bad: his photographic memory. this plot device went absolutely nowhere especially when he throws the tea in his face. again the film is redundant because they already knew the tea fucked with his health so it didnt matter that he had memorized some additional ingredient in it.

I agree on these points about Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I know it's a stupid action/sci-fi Hollywood blockbuster, but the science in that movie was so staggeringly stupid that it became distracting. I usually have no problem suspending disbelief. I accept Brundlefly. I do not accept whatever lazy shit the writers of Rise tried to pass off as a "realistic gritty reboot" when their plot revolves around medical science and primatology and they obviously have no knowledge about either field.

it was an animal rights morality play you goddamned waterbrains

but yes, I can imagine how the nu-Apes movie is annoying to hardcore fans (not that I ever gave a fuck about a PotA movie) the same way nu-StarTrek was to trekkies... both are still decent general sci-fi movies if you don't have nerd-based expectations

Considering they were in modern San Fransisco but animal rights issues had inexplicably remained unchanged since the 1920's, it's pretty miraculous that senile Eric Qualen didn't gleefully stomp the baby chimp to death the first chance he got.

there's certainly still a spectrum... plenty of people abuse animals in the wake of animal rights progress
