Oh nooo but I wanted to see more goofy Jared Leto! haha. Everybody involved sucks shit on a regular basis. This is the perfect moment to recall the Sony powerpoint slides leak that happened a couple of years ago

Anyway,

Jigsaw - 6/10
Traps were pretty weak and compared to earlier films there wasn't that much gore in it - really liked the last scene though where a dude's head is cut up by lasers. Totally retarded and contrived plotline, just as usual. Eh, I was entertained, I guess. Next up: the three Hatchet films as a tripple feature, whenever mate of mine and I get around to it. I've got one week of school holidays coming up!!

Good Luck (2017) - 5
Experimental documentary on contemporary mining practises in Europe and Africa. Its meter is not so much thought-provoking as it is sadistic. Ultimately aimless.

A bit too long IMHO, but still good. Devolves into almost survival horror towards the end

The New York Ripper (Fulci) - 5/10
Some good funky music, some good gore effects, and plenty of sleaze, but all in all still pretty boring.

Pretty much describes every Fulci movie I've seen

Wonder Woman 2/10
I totally fail to see what all the hype was about. It's your fucking average generic bland summer blockbuster bullshit:
- same tired pseudo washed out/ dark look that all DC films seem to aspire to
- shitty and clicheed dialogue
- shitty characters (the amazons, oh boy... what a bunch of ninnies)
- shitty action scenes that were not convincing at all (probably since everybody involved probably has zero martial arts experience outside of the filming of this turd), also because huge parts were done in shitty/ immediately recognisable CGI. Sometimes it was totally unclear which part of their opponents our heroes hit.
- everything was incredibly hammed up; almost every dumb conversation in the film had the obnoxious OST in the background that was supposed to make everything feel epic but fealt tired and clicheed like everything else in this film (of course WW's Amazon coach/ replacement father figure sacrifices herself in the most trite way possible to save WW)
- dumb bad guys including Ares. Using that British wanker was an idiotic casting decision. He has zero charisma and doesn't seem threatening at all.

The one thing I didn't hate was Chris Pine; his character had a modicum of swagger. I didn't have any high hopes for this film, but after everything I read I was looking forward to an at least slightly interesting commentary on masculinity and femininity. Nothing much of interest here as well. What a missed opportunity.

coco - 8.5/10

a few bits of the plot were too aggressively telegraphed (i thoroughly understand it's a movie for children and babies) but the overall everything else was fantastic, in particular the music, which is super catchy and memorable

(i still don't like the idea that in this movie's universe, you enter the land of the dead at the age you were when you died; if i died tomorrow, i'd want to see my kids when they arrived as i remembered them, not some random middle-aged-to-old people that i never met before. sure it'd be great to know my kids as the people they turned out to be, but current me—and, in turn, dead me—would miss three shithead idiot toddlers, not like tax accountants or whatever. but i guess they wouldn't want to be forced to revert to toddlers. i don't know, i'm the only non-mexican in the family.)

Baby Driver - 7/10

Very heavily style over substance, but the film desn’t try to pretend it’s anything else, and it does a good job of offering engaging style, for the most part. I was trying to place where I’d seen the female lead before until I realized I was thinking of Madchen Amick from 30 years ago, which was a really odd experience.

50 shades of grey 1/10 after my thread on the book(s), it was inevitable that I see this eventually. it SUCKED. a point for the chick looking good naked. not even any interesting sex. no beejers, CGI bush, dude didn't hang dong...

annihilation 7/10 I was super excited for this but it was overly hand-holdy and didn't really build any tension or intrigue. maybe it'd be different if i hadn't read the book. some awesome moments but far from great overall.

Black Panther - 6.5/10
Thor Ragnarok - 7.5/10

Black Panther was so overrated. Interesting style, characters and world but the movie itself was so plodding. I didn't expect to be bored. Action was meh. Thor Ragnarok was a blast. Completely without real substance but it was tasty candy.

black panther 7.5/10 feels like what I wanted/expected from wonder woman (as far as hollywood for-profit progressivism is concerned). why did the give the villain the moral high ground? serkis's character was really enjoyable in this, and all the women were off the charts.
