I thought the massacre with the satan worshipers was really great. And the weird scene where she's like sucking blood out of that guys face and her tongue looks like a proboscis or something.

The Passing ('83 | 96min) - 8/10 - Two elderly WW2 vets live together, trying to make the most of their extreme poverty and failing health. Meanwhile, a young guy gets revenge on his wife's rapist, but is sent to prison for an inadvertent murder. The two plots eventually meet via a Beyond The Black Rainbow-ish science fiction institute. It's a slow movie, but incredibly charming. I might have already mentioned this one previously - this was a rewatch with a friend who hadn't seen it - but I am a big fan of this movie. If curious, take a look at the stills on IMDB to get a sense of the vibe this is serving.

Civil War 7/10

Nightcrawlers meets Apocalypse Now. Director of Photography definitely earned their money. If you showed up wanting to pick a side you probably left disappointed.

Mortal Kombat 2021 - 7/10

As a big fan of the first movie, I'm very pleasantly surprised by this one. It's super goofy and dumb and somehow manages to never let you know whether it's doing it on purpose.

late night w the devil didnt work for me at all 3 or 4 or so out of 10

mixing different narrative modalities and devices with found footage and normal dramatic framing techniques etc does not fucking work. dont do it!!! first youre watching a tabloid show w michael ironside voice over which is framing a lost tv episode and then cutting from that to b&w behind the scenes stuff which is also impossibly cutting between WAY too many sources capturing intimmate conversations etc makes no fucking sense and dilutes your PRETTY GOOD IDEA

Wait seriously? The one from 1995 or whatever?

Men - 8/10
Yeah, maybe a bit too complacent in places, although it's absolutely beautiful to look at. Great performances, dialogue (which was incredibly authentic in many scenes), sound design, gore effects, takes its time with setting things up. Garland isn't afraid to do whatever the fuck he wants, which makes his films very refreshing to me. Can't wait to see Civil War.

Talk To Me Dicky - 5.5 - A Hong Kong comedy where detectives trying to catch a serial rapist discover that cocks talk to eachother and learn how to communicate with theirs and use this to hunt down the rapist. Not as funny as it could've been.

Cops And Robbers - 7.5 - Nice 70's NYC crime flick from the guy who wrote the wonderful The Hot Rock. Joe Spinnell!

Well, not seriously in the way I like Stanley Kubrick movies, obviously, but I played the games a ton at the time and I still think the completely goofy and over the top way they adapted it was great. How else are you going to make a Mortal Kombat movie?

Possessor - 7/10
Tons of neat visual ideas, plenty of realistic gore, great acting, great handmade effects, but still left me strangely cold. Felt a bit hollow since it felt like it wasn't about much more than what was shown.

Three thousand years of longing - 8.5/10
I've only seen Miller's Madmax films, but he just seems to be an all around fantastic director. Really looking forward to watching everything else he has done, including Happy Feet, fuck it, and maybe even that pig film.

He produced Happy Feet but only directed Happy Feet Two. Babe: Pig in the City is fucking insane, and Lorenzo's Oil is the most Oscar bait bullshit he ever did, but it's actually great.

I know you are European (my condolences by the way),but this Patrick Swayze hate is very much misplaced. Yes, many of us USA boys hated him and watching those chick movies he was in for a while because those movies are fucking stupid and boring, but it gave many woman and girls that tingle, which probably helped a dude or two in to 80's. In fact, thanks to him, I was born. Of, course, I was born in 1976. The year President Snoopy, proclaimed that he did Ghost, and that if he wasn't there, we would have had to watch Whoopie Goldberg make out with Bruce Willis' wife. Whopie Goldberg. Because I took THC two hours ago and it now hit me like a fat girls tits. Delicious, yet embarrassing.

No to Whoopie Goldberg
