Do you really feel the need to create the side-on angle on the triangle though ? If the arm is across and I pull the head down shit is over even if I'm in line with them. Sometimes I gable around my choking leg knee too but most often I just attack the isolated arm.

Yeah man I mean I get that it technically is a "better" triangle, I just mean is it really a necessary element in your mind. To me it's like a 1% increase in quality that's not really worth chasing.

I never hit triangles from guard either unless the person is utterly retarded, but I get a lot of inverted off single legs and on guys who are turtled, and of course that Chris Lytle N/S triangle where you can rip off kimuras all day with no danger to yourself

That's fine, I'm not saying the angle is useless or whatever, I just have never felt like it was the difference between finishing and not finishing a triangle. Obviously Ryan Hall knows a lot more about triangles than I do and I absolutely grant that it's tighter, just not as important of a quality as pulling the head, bridging the hips, and making sure that arm is across.

I also feel like the angle creates a greater liability for escape as a shorter stubby-legged guy.

The Rockhold one on Boetsch from a failed shot, your chest is on their back. The Lytle one is transitioned to from side control or N/S with your chest on their chest. I guess you could call them the same in that they're both triangles, but..

i forgot Rockhold transitioned to the top to finish. I'm talking about when you finish from their back, sorta like like Imada on Masvidal but without them standing. Hitting an armbar from guard and then going bellydown on it is a transition too, yeah ?

I've watched all of that Ryan Hall triangles DVD ! It didn't make me find any more success from creating the angle. Like I said, I'm not saying it's irrelevant, it just doesn't feel like an important piece to me. Bridging the hips does, moreso than crunching. Bridging makes the triangle shrink more. In my experience of course. I know a lot of guys prefer a head-on angle too -- Maia talks about it a lot.
