isn't the club where comedians tend to suss out what works/doesn't as they develop a new set? you can't judge it any more harshly than you would dropping in on a band rehearsing songs for their next album...
Yeah this is basically what I came to say. I only listened to five minutes of it and it's not great, but there's a couple funny elements at least, and I bet most of what he does in this would have never made it to a special anyway, beyond the base idea. There's a reason (well, a couple of reasons) why most stand-ups hate having these sorts of sets recorded and released, and it's because the material is totally unrefined and unfinished, and doing these sets is how it gets refined and finished, by seeing what works and what doesn't. So if you hear it in advance and judge it based on that, you're hearing it with all the fat and such still on the bone. It's not really fair at all to the art. "Hey this painting that the artist is 10% finished sure sucks !"
To Fobtuse's point, though, he says he had a shit entire year and lost 35 million, and he IS being shunned as a sexual predator by a significant portion of his peers, so it's hard to imagine he came out of that unscathed mentally and emotionally, and it's not THAT crazy to think it's having an effect on his quality
Hell, even before all this happened, his last special was certainly not his best, and his show was definitely not my favourite
