Ha, I think you're kidding... there are some real things in the movie. I think?

I don't think they are reading this thread.
We'll see about that!

Screencaps from game, which will also be in 3D: http://www.shacknews.com/screenshots.x? ... #img135960
Looks too much like Aliens to generate excitement in this grizzled dork. The mech above is obviously confirmed now.

That's a damn good CG shot, but the general weakness of CG shows up when it's in motion, not so much as a static image, but at the very least, that's a good shot for CG regardless of source or context (unless it was photoshop touched up like crazy I suppose). I'm really interested in seeing what these guys do technically even if the movie itself is shit.
MANTIS wrote:That's industry faggotry bullshit-speak. They just want to charge you more to see movies.
I see it as this plus a bit more. I think some non-idiots in the industry realize that a lot of people don't buy shit because the experience of watching a movie in a theater has lost its allure to people, so they want people to actually buy movies and to experience them better in the future. When movie theaters were huge business, people went to movies and were amazed by what they saw and they shelled out dough for it plenty without a word of complaint. By upping sheer quality, I think these guys want to demonstrate to the industry that it's possible to do something new, take risks, and keep the dying industry alive.

they are completley right on big budget flicks being shot completely in computer, however. the real questions are: how long until this and current voice masking technology starts giving us movies with dead actors. how long until "acting" becomes a dead art, chris nolans are seen as amusing anachronisms, as every director with a "vision" and a budget REQUIRES that he be able to go back and massage every little pixel into perfection. how long until no one trusts ANYTHING they see on video?

finally some people saw footage - 24 min worth
The first footage from James Cameron’s Avatar was screened to over 1,000 European Industry attendees at CinemaExpo International in Amsterdam, and some of the early buzz has begun to leak out. 24 minutes of footage was screened in all, most of which came from the first third of the film, but THR notes that “there were also glimpses from unfinished portions of later battle scenes.” What did everyone think of the first glimpse of the film that everyone is already touting as “revolutionary”? The reactions after the jump are, for the most part, spoiler free.

“The Insider” files his report on ComingSoon: “jaw-dropping experience.” … “3-D until now has been used as a gimmick.” On the human characters inhabiting their Avatars: “It took my breath away. I thought–just like you guys–that I’ve seen it all with Gollum, or The Hulk, but Cameron has done it again. These creatures seem so real, that within minutes you forget you’re watching an enormous and very blue CGI character. Even the eyes are totally convincing. The characters have real personalities and a soul.” … “How the hell is it possible that I never once felt like I’ve been watching a movie where almost everything comes out of a computer?” … “The effects are in a league of their own. After some disappointing or even pointless 3-D movies, Avatar maybe the first movie where 3-D is properly utilized.”

“Anonymous” over on IESB: “It makes me want to create a time machine like Cartman from South Park, so that I don’t have to wait till the 18th of December to watch the finished movie. If it’s anything like the scenes I saw, it’s going to be one of the best movies of the decade.”

3D joyful whoppertar - it's 3D but not like "IN YOUR FACE 3D" it's more of a subtle, "mild" 3D right there on the patty for you to eat Image

Good call - gnarly purple foil-age and everything.

In other news, I just realized that JC directed True Lies. That's fine, but it's not exactly up to T1, T2, Aliens, & Abyss standards. Still happily free of Titanic knowledge, though.

you can not-see it all you want, doesn't change the fact that it's an absolutely horrible movie by this director.
