The important thing to me is that when you read about OR, it's usually creators talking about the possibilities they see to make interesting and cool stuff with it, and not some marketing exec using the word "experiences" in every sentence.

I've got the Oculus Rift DK2 and can confirm that when you've got both it and headphones on, it is possible to become completely immersed in a way that's like nothing else you've tried. It's very much a dev kit though, requiring fiddling with things depending on the game you're running, but we should hear details of the consumer version at CES in a couple of weeks.

VR is a gimmick and will always be a gimmick. There is no way around it. It could be a totally immerse excellent experience. Still a gimmick. People are going to buy it, use it for a week, and never use it again. People will always say that VR was never successful in the past because the technology sucked. It wasn't the technology. It failed because it's a gimmick.

Racing wheels are a gimmick and they've survived. Most people I know who play racing games don't have one and prefer to play with a controller. I have one and I think it's really fun, but I only use it rarely because I don't like it clogging up my living room. But they're still around because they have a specific purpose, and they fulfill that purpose very well. Gun controllers survived for a very long time until FPS games got better and nobody wanted to play on-rails shooters anymore.Cryptoplasty wrote:VR is a gimmick and will always be a gimmick.
What I'm saying is, if they can develop games around OR that work and don't seem like they'd be less hassle and just as good on a regular screen, it could stick. It won't replace anything, and it'll be a niche market like racing wheels, but it's possible. It's absolutely NOT "the future of gaming", of course.

Dead Space 3: in space, no one can hear you bitch about micro-transactions.
EA stopped doing this in their AAA games again, right? Does DA Inquisition have them?
Anyway, I think I hate this game. I might play it a bit more tomorrow just to be sure, but it's just a boring, annoying slog. There's always too many necromorphs, nothing is scary, and yeah, yeah, look, another rust texture.

You're almost at the train level, the best part of any of that series. Just keep believing in yourself (drinking) and you'll get through this.

Sneezing on enemies is game-breakingly overpowered. Nothing is a real threat, and if it is, hell, my inventory's always full when I try to pick something up, so I'll just spam the heal button, who cares.Pisscubes wrote:And I don't know if you've crafted a shotgun yet but unless they patched it, it was game-breakingly overpowered.
I'm hardly the first person to point this out, but I think the overall problem is the "everything and the kitchen sink" game design here. I like the weapon crafting, for example, but what's it doing in a Dead Space game? How many different fucking hacking minigames are there? Why is this stupid shuttle in the game? Fucking sidequests?
And that's on top of all the bad design decisions. Like, if I can craft so much different shit and ammo is universal anyway (which, don't get me started on that), why can I suddenly carry only two weapons? Why do weapon attachments use up an inventory slot, but other crafting materials don't? Why do I need kinesis to open some doors, but not others? Double-tap LB to execute a dodge roll? Wait, there's a dodge roll? Why does the tutorial explain everything but this? Why is there a cover mechanic that doesn't work and is almost never used but results in just tapping RS to briefly display the waypoint doesn't work anymore?
So much stupid shit. I feel like I'm having a massive case of Recent Convert Syndrome here, but it's really kind of amazing how poorly thought out this game is. Oh well. I think I'll just go back and play DS2 in NG+, that started out pretty fun.

we played DS3's broken-ass co-op on the hardest difficulty and I don't think I ever used cover once
there's a revive function in there for co-op which is hilarious because 4/5 times if you're downed you're killed immediately by the monster that hit you

if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Is that separate missions or do you play the regular story campaign in co-op? I was thinking about what you said yesterday about it not having been designed with co-op in mind, and it occurred to me that basically all of the corridors are too narrow for two players.copstache wrote:we played DS3's broken-ass co-op on the hardest difficulty and I don't think I ever used cover once

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
yeah you pretty much walk single-file. there's some sections where player 2 starts hallucinating and you're separated, and that's where it gets real fucking shitty.
but yes it's the exact same campaign.

So in other words, the game was finished and then someone decided it had to have co-op and a dodge roll to get those Gears of War bux.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
it's pretty bad. in some situations they only put in one upgrade thing (the closet where you change your suits) so you have to wait for your buddy to get out before you can change yours.
there are puzzles, like one where you have to put some stuff in the correct order, or unlock some doors near the end, where your buddy just stands around while you solve it.

A friend of mine in Melbourne took part in a beta test of a zombie shooter experience in an old abandoned hospital that used the real environment and superimposed the zombies and certain game elements into the actual surroundings.
It was still beta but she absolutely raved about it and she's a pretty serious gamer and not easily impressed - I'm willing to give it a go, but I still remember how shit VR was when we had a VR game place here in the 90's where you are like in a TRON esque tiny level avoiding a Pterodactyl or some dumb shit like that and how crappy the games were so skepticism is still my reflex to anything VRish.
Finished the story part of DA Inqusition after taking my time with the game and doing pretty much all I could be bothered doing - about 60 hours worth, tonne of missions left to do and overall a solid ass game 8/10 - Well worth it.
Loving the UC recap. I must play 3, after loving 1 and 2 I just never bothered to play 3.

Funny that you said Hobo. For no good reason I just played a little of Blood 2 about the time you would have posted that and I repeated aloud my favorite thing I've heard you randomly say. "Oh nice! A hobo." Then I chopped up the bum and stole his heart. At least in Blood, they admit Caleb is a mass murdering bastard, while Drake gets the hero like Indiana Jones treatment.

pretty epic commentary man \m/
I was going to say I don't understand THAT much Drake hate... then I realized I've never spent more than an hour or two in a row with the guy, let alone 11. your persistence is as admirable as I'm sure your current living conditions are deplorable

imagine drake is a single dad going through countless deaths and continues just to make rent for his two kids from mediocre paychecks from naughty dog because youre still playing ps3 drake.

I know the main villains aren't the focal point of the game but Laserrevich suuuucked as a bad guy. How much of 3 sucks? All of it or after a certain point? I have it from PS Plus and could probably blow through it tomorrow and on the weekend.
That is if Destiny releases my soul from its evil tendrils. I have next week off and am going to be raiding hard all week if I can find the match ups.

uncharted 3 plays just like 2 and the graphics are outstanding, but it just drops off a cunting cliff.
