Don't have a clue who any of the characters are, what any of their motivations are, reasons for any of their actions, what the overarching conflict is, and half the damn time I don't really even understand how the action is supposed to be playing out in the art ?!

Still pretty great, if only for the world and its inhabitants (whoever they are).
Apart from being blown away by the aesthetics, the dynamics of the action scenes (even if half the time you can't be entirely sure what exactly is going on. fuck it, they're still awesome), and the incredibly dense atmosphere I love that it's one of the most radical/ pure modern literary works (not surprised a Japanese author came up with it): the city as an embodiment of modernity has become so all-encompassing that there are no borders to it, there is no outside, no nature, not even bacteria. Time and space have largely become meaningless or extremely distorted (this is also mirrored in the structure of the comic: you have no idea how much time passes between chapters or how long Killy has been on his quest; at one point when Killy is in an escalator, a whole month passes between two panels which are largely similar).
This IMHO explains and justifies the emptiness there is to it: you can barely make out a rough plotline (Killy looking for net terminal genes to stop the structure's aimless growth), you don't know much about the characters, the ending seems to be cathartic (?); often, it's very repetitive (Killy encounters enemies, then BOOOM). I also love the fact that the gravitational beam emitter makes 100 kilometers long holes (and produceds the sound word BLAM, which btw is the original title of this series - the English publisher just seemed to think that Blame! made it sound more artsy or deep or whatever), but in the end it doesn't make a damn difference.
Sorry for rambling, but Blame is one of my absolute comic favourites and I read the whole thing at least every couple of years.

The wife bought an overhead projector so we can project and paint cityscapes from it on the bedroom walls. :fp:
Check out the prequel Noise if you want to find out a little more about the world.

I really liked/loved this. Good three dimensional character arcs, loved the basic idea of the story with the different keys, loved how the story was told including setting up seemingly unrelated events for big backstory later, the setting, the ending, how the story captured the confusion and frustration of high school and didn't ever lose it in the potential supernatural quagmire. Minor nitpicks but this was really great and my score would only go up from an 8.5 the more I think about it.
At some point I read they were making this a tv show.

They talked about it at the end of the comic; I guess the pilot didn't get picked up so, no show.

Great thoughts The Kill, it somehow escaped me on account of I'm fucking retarded that Killy wanted the net terminal genes to stop the builders building, which actually gives the struggle and motivations I was missing, so thanks for that. Makes a lot more sense now.

Bodied the first collection of Tom King's run on The Vision. Haven't enjoyed a Marvel book this much in years.

She's named Iron Heart, even though she's taken over the main Ironman title.

In my old age I like the Outer Space Marvel stuff the best, as long as they're aren't a bunch of super heroes flying around in it (Venom in Guardians of the Galaxy, for example). I also hated the new Silver Surfer. Art was too cutesy, and the writing was trying to be modern Doctor Who way too hard. Annihilation is probably my favorite modern times comic.

Outside of Doomsday "killing" Superman and Bane breaking Bats, I gave DC Comics n the 90's zero attention. Glad to see they also drank the Leifeld Style cool-aide:

Deadpool/Cable: Split Second - 3/10

Christ, what a mess. Nicieza knows how to write Deadpool, obviously, and the art's pretty decent, but otherwise, Jesus fuck. Haven't read anything this disjointed and indecipherable since the last time I touched a Bendis-written X-book. No, actually, it's worse. And just because it's supposed to be funny doesn't excuse it.

I've never liked the Deadpool/Cable comics. Too much, "Despite me being bat shit insane and a paid murderer I still have feelings, Cable."

Never read one before. I read the Cable book for a good long while back in the day, but that's it. This was actually the first Deadpool comic I read, I only knew him from the movie. I mean, I was aware of the character, but I never really cared.

So, Fight Club 2, um...
I guess any writer whose entire body of work is completely overshadowed by their first eventually grows to hate it, but if you're going to let the world know by satirizing it, might as well do it like this. It's pretty good.

Yes.
and it's good?!
Sort of.

Palahniuk wrote it himself, and it's surprisingly competent for someone who's never written comics.

There should be a superhero named Liefeld who's super power is that at every second one part of his anatomy is disproportionate from the rest.
