Sod rental. What you want to do is you want to get yourself a hammer, smash the fuck out of your TV, DVD and video player and then you want to buy yourself a cheap laptop. That's what I do. When I want to watch a film I bring the laptop over from the desk onto the coffee table, I have speakers on each side of the coffee table with my collection of DVDs and videos each side of the sofa. Then I make myself some hot buttered crumpets (toast on some occasions), bring them into the living room and sit down down to enjoy all the fine cinema I want via youtube.

Just last night I was watching Roman Polanski's Repulsion (released 1965), and then an old DVD of a french version of Lady Chatterly's lover. Tonight it will be Laurence Olivier's breathtaking production of Richard III, assuming there is a link to stream it somewhere on the net.

I was hoping you'd ask me that.

I use BBC iplayer for any documentaries or comedy programs I want to watch, and for American shows I find other stream sites. Not the best quality I know, but it saves me money.

I've got nothing against buying DVD's when I want to watch something in better quality, and a lot of them seem to be cheap these days, but I've always found rentals a rip off. And I'm also too poor to afford a TV licence right now.
