I'm hoping it's more than just Skyclad and I posting in this thread.

On-topic: Totally digging the battle system.

Since Resonance of Fate got pushed back another week it looks like I'm getting this today instead. I'd probably get more money for a trade-in for FFXIII over RoF anyways so maybe it's better this way.

 / :awesome:

Massively pertinent Goat opinions forthcoming.

I will say that the first hour is a fantastic blend of both backstory/getting to know people and action. It's not just one tutorial fight followed by an hour of wandering aimlessly around like Lost Odyssey was, nor is it the thrown-to-the-wolves feeling you get in Demon's Souls.

This game is fucking amazing. I didn't like FF 7 or 8, liked 9, 10 was so-so 12 was okay though I neve rplayed more than 1/4 of it, but this just may be the best FF game I've ever played. That completely cut out all unndecesary shit and add little nuances to make everything better. I'm 5 or 6 hours in, been amazed the whole time. Thing is, people say it gets even better after the 25 hour mark. The battle system is awesome and you're keeping an eye on everything so closely it's damn near like an action RPG at times. I didn't think I'd like the fact there are no towns, but I don't miss 'em at all. good voice acting, decent characters. Fuck... you guys won't see me quitting this before I'm done. Graphics are jaw-dropping.

The one problem I have with the game so far is Hope...Squenix just couldn't resist putting in the androgynous whiny fucking cunt of a "male" character, now could they? Everyone else seems OK, even the Vanessa America looking teen and the nblack with the Chocobo in his fro.

I'm an hour or so in. Gameplay is pretty good so far and it's amazing visually. Even though I'm still at the beginning I can almost feel how linear it is... it's kind of suffocating. I don't know about calling all the other staples of RPG's that was cut from this "unnecessary"... I always felt it added a layer of depth not found in most other genres.

It's mildly understandable that it's rather linear at the beginning, but give it a bit, Goatus. You'll see some of those staples show up, albeit in different forms.

Yeah, once you get the Paradigm Shifts, you aren't going to be mashing X. I mean, you could... but you'd die. Or at least every battle is going to take you a long time.

As for running forward, you're going to do that a lot through the whole game, I think. I remember reading a developers blog where they were saying the wanted more linearity so people didn't wander around for 20 hours a la Oblivion and forget the storyline.

The part when you first gain control over Hope, right before him and Vanille go to the fal'cie, if you walk the opposite direction of the hover bike jet thing you encounter a woman in one of those white robes reciting a portion of the Bene Gesserit litany against fear from Dune.

Whoa whoa whoa. Don't blame this on Skyclad, blame the Japanese for telling America's young men that it's okay to be effeminate and style your hair more than the average woman.

I'll go back to sometimes reading this thread.
