This album is one of the crust/d-beat essentials, and I think it had a large influence on the crust/d-beat resurgence of the '00s. It really is a shame that the popular backlash against nu metal early in the last decade caused this album to become something of a blacklisted metal album. I remember going to their first show at Boston's in Tempe before that s/t album came out, didn't know what to expect, and I fucking HATED Roots.... Show sucked, album sucked....bunch of jump up and down bullshit. They also practiced right next to a friend of mine's band ( at 24th Street and Chambers for those familiar with the area) during this time... Max's wife Gloria is a fucking CUNT and a half. If you are wondering the reasons Sep broke up, look no further than that bitch. Even his own brother couldn't take her shit as their "manager"....

I didn't know 'em that well, but of the 6-7 or so times we ran into them, Max and the rest of the band were cool as shit. They would hang out, BS, whatever... She actually came up to Max as a few of us were talking outside the studios, pulled him away by the arm and said something to the effect of "he doesn't have time for this, go somewhere else and stop bothering us". Everytime she spoke, people would roll their eyes and walk away... it was like she was jealous of the attention her husband got so she acted like a 3 year old because of it. We made it a point to avoid them like the plague after that, but there were a few other times we heard her screaming at everyone for attention... it was kind of funny.

I can hear it. I doubt it influenced crusties, because the musicianship and production both sound good. Maybe crusties would've liked it more if the guitarist hit his fingers with a hammer before entering the studio and the drummer recorded his tracks while on a severe come down that prevented him playing in time.
