I can't get into anything new within the boundaries of "normal" guitar-based music such as rock, metal, hardcore etc, but I can still appreciate releases from the bands that were doing it before the 21st century.

Meanwhile, electronic music is enjoying the best of times, and flourishing like never before.

The past decade was no different than any other decade. All decades have their share of diamonds and shit, musically speaking. It only seems like there's more shit because there are more bands/artists/etc now than ever before. Trouble is, you're just looking at the shit instead of the diamonds. There are more diamonds for everybody. You don't have to dig far to find them. Maybe you'll find some emeralds and rubies, too. And gold nuggets!

hey! i met fantasia and shes realy cool and nice. this scorpio girl that i used to hang out with, was related to 1 of the main actresses in "the color purple" play,and after the play was over she was able to get us backstage,and we got to meet the cast and fantasia, she has an awsum voice and is realy friendly. she offered me to take a pic with her but i declined bc im realy not a fan, but i took a pic of her with the scorpio girl i went with. the pic didnt turn out too great bc i took it with a cellphone camera and the backstage area wasnt too well lit but i can post it if u n e of u guys want to see it,just let me know.

I absolutely, completely agree with everything here with 2 modifications.

1) I had given up hope on the decade in question a while before it was over. Am I old enough to have experienced tons of other decades first hand? No. I don't give a shit. 2000-'09 was utter shite.

2) It wasn't actually utter shite. There were some good albums that came out. But almost every single one of them were by a band formed prior to 2000. I have actually had several conversations about this with people, and I cannot think of one band I like that wasn't formed before 2000, except maybe TV on the Radio (though I'm kind of over them) Bon Iver ( and while For Emma... was great, it wasn't exactly earth-shattering). There is no new blood that is good blood. Not like I have done anything to contribute, but my generation has seriously disappointed me. I guess I could say something like "my generation's so fucked up that art has become trite and meaningless," but that would be affording them/us a level of fucked up that we don't deserve. Fuck my generation/fuck me.


And yes, I do think that there is a connection with the availability/internet aspect of music.

I am 28, so anything that came out before 2000 I generally don't consider my generation. All of the people making music in my youth that I loved were at least 10 years older than me.

Seriously, any recommendations are more than welcome, metal or otherwise (though I really don't listen to much metal anymore).

it's a retarded, selfish attitude that every era of music shares. there are a ton of incredible albums that came out in the last decade dude, just like every decade. as more people have more access to easier to use recording equipment and fucking any and everybody can put out "art", but that doesn't mean there aren't still genuinely talented and inspired musicians out there making awesome art.
