so I've been playing From The Shadows and The Second Ring Of Power back to back, this is some weird doom metal, very psychedelic, traces of black metal and death metal, very hard to pigeonhole. I was wondering, any bands similar to these guys?

Check out the first Dolorian album: "When all of the Laughter Has Gone."

That's really the only thing as psychotic and comparable.

If you like this band also check out other Finnish doom...the later Unholy albums and then of course Skepticism, Tyranny, Wormphlegm, etc. Go back to Thergothon if you have to.

When they went in the studio to record "Rapture" the guitarist told the engineer to try to copy the guitar sound from Metallica's Black Album. True story.

Unholy were a totally unique entity until "Rapture"...no other band really sounds like that. I think Katatonia's "Dance Of December Souls" is close though at times.

They did not really sound like Unholy by that time...
