RECOMMEND PODCASTS, bub.

I've mostly been listening to the talk show variety while at work or in the car.

Portland talk show host I've been listening to since 97 or so. Funny guy.
http://rickemerson.com/

Good podcast with two former participants of the Rick Emerson show. They are unemployed and just get drunk and
talk about whatever.

Great show at times even though I loathe Ira Glass and his simpering, mushmouth narratives.

NPR show that is kinda like a "This american life" but is all about science and fascinating shit.

Show about paranormal activity and cryptozoology

You can't do much better than Scharpling and Wurster from the Best Show on WFMU. The Best Show Gems podcast is all the bits with Wurster.

I've listened to this American Life a few times and thought it was boring as all fuck. I guess it depends on the subject matter though. I only listen to sports related stuff so i won't bother listing

I'm glad to see the monstertalk shoutout. They has a few shows on prehistoric creatures which are probably their best, and it's made me hungry for a real paleontology podcast. Alas: theres one that starts with a great interview with Robert Baker and never did another episode, and a decent one though heavy on the politics for some fucking reason, which only did 2 episodes!

http://www.causticsodapodcast.com/I just heard about this podcast, its about disturbing topics and done in a laid back, but never really bro-ey, way. (Most movie podcast I've noticed are very bro-ey) It's grand fun, even topics you would think are lame.

http://sundayssupplement.blogspot.com/The worlds best S&M themed english newspaper podcast.

http://skeptoid.com/episode_guide.phpSkeptoid is always the perenial favorite, though I question as to wether it can properly be considered a "podcast."

If you can hear it, there is a great show called "the joe frank show" it generally a hallucinatory story anthology sort of thing. It's hard to explain.

Holy shit, I can't believe someone beat me to the Comedy Bang Bang punch! I was actually just coming in here to recommend that. Here's what I've got:

Image

Comedy Bang Bang: Scott Aukerman (a writer from Mr. Show) has comedian, musician, and actors on as guests, but instead of actually discussing the process, they sit around bullshitting for about an hour, during which time an interesting character or two usually stops in (due to the show's "open door policy") and makes things very strange and hilarious.

The show started as a radio version of the Comedy Death Ray show at UCB theater, but it became its own thing altogether and they changed the name last week for the 2-year anniversary.

Check out the sample, "Bob Ducca's List of Ailments" from the link for an example, and check out the recent show with Patton Oswalt and unexpected guest "Dom Dimello" if you want to hear a full episode.

Image

Mike Detective, Unlicensed and Uninsured Private Eye: This one is co-written by Scott Aukerman and features Rob Huebel as Mike Detective, a fast-talking, hard-boiled gumshoe that makes his way through weekly absurd, pun-heavy 5-minute episodes filled with menacing henchmen and the evil Kelsey Grammer. There are only 14 episodes, and the show is over, so you can listen to the whole thing in one sitting.

Image

The Pod F. Tompkast: My absolute favorite podcast (tied with Comedy Bang Bang, more likely), this monthly podcast features Paul F. Tompkins rambling at length about absolutely nothing in particular, with breaks for "The Great Undiscovered Project"—a ridiculous, serialized set of phone calls between various celebrity voices (all played by PFT, as Comedy Bang Bang listeners will recognize)—and a recorded phone call to Paul's friend, comedian Jen Kirkman. The funniest parts of the show are actually just Paul F. Tompkins going off on a tangent and laughing at his own jokes—it's surprisingly hilarious.

Image

Never Not Funny: Jimmy Pardo and producer Matt Belknap have been doing this weekly podcast for 5 or so years, and it's your basic, loose-format interview and conversation thing, but Pardo is one of the fastest and most witty personalities in "broadcasting." The guests are also fantastic, sharing the same talent pool as most of the other podcasts I listen to (Earwolf shows like Comedy Bang Bang for example, in which Pardo has appeared and even guest-hosted). But really, it's just hearing Jimmy Pardo do his thing that makes the podcast so awesome.

Image

Walking the Room: Comedians Dave Anthony and Greg Behrendt spend an hour or so bullshitting with each other about all sorts of banal minutia, talk shit about comedians and other personalities, repeatedly comment on the poor quality and production values of their own podcast and engage in existential dilemmas such as their increasingly-marginal success as comedians getting older by the minute. Somehow, it ends up being extremely hilarious and entertaining!

You can't be serious—my shitty internet connection was stalling on me, so I couldn't see the video you posted, just that it was a favorite character. I opened a new tab to find that exact same BC-B video to post while I waited, and when I came back I saw that you beat me to it again. Are you actually me?

Also: WHO'S THE MOST FUCKABLE HUXTABLE?!

I have been enjoying deathsquad.tv which is Jow Rogans crew including Ari Shaffir, Redban, sam tripoli jayson thibault, etc

Recently on rogans podcast (I think its 127, he brings his friend chris on to talk about his ayuasca experience. It's great. Its on rogans site, not on the deathsquad site.

I know there's lots of kevin smith haters but his smodcast is pretty interesting. Los angeles is great cos you can see quality podcasts live like smodcast or adam carolla. Lots of comedians that have podcasts are steaight out of LA.

I've been listening to this thing a lot. : Europe from its Origins
It's a history of europe podcast that takes a much more pro-europe stance than most such histoy things. Very interesting. Unfortunatly, the guy who does it uses humungous quicktime files instead of something sensible so each episode is like a 600 Meg slideshow! It's sort of dry but totally fascinating.

Since they're not in here, The History of Rome and Hardcore History are also grand history podcasts. There are others but I think The History of Rome is the best.

I still want a podcast about dinosaurs, but alas there are none.
