So how do people actually play with these crazy wonderful maps - print them out on a poster sized sheet of paper and then cover all the rooms the heroes can't see with more paper?

So how do you play those huge maps - do you print them out and present them room by room or do you draw them on a transparent layer or...? Is this more or less a huge hack'n slay session or does it involve "real" role-playing as well (meeting and accepting a quest from a stranger in a tavern, falling in love with the Ice Queen etc.)?
all depends on your style of play. a lot of people are playing through virtual tabletops like roll20 completely through the internet now which has a variety of ways to play that might blow your mind. other people are obviously sitting around a table and drawing their own maps or, like you said, presenting them room by room by uncovering them with paper or using projectors etc. depending on the type of game your players want to play or what the group consensus is you have a dungeon crawl that's just people arguing over how to proceed with tons of lite roleplay and decision making with very little combat or, you can just be fighting shit with no attempt at story or character interaction. are you trolling me

Re: Suffering from an urge to play Dungeons & Dragons
this maniac kinda deserves the clickthrough. he keeps churning out these sprawling multi paneled mega dungeon monstrosities for free. he spends a weirdly exorbitant amount of time to do these things and he only wants people to play on them
