While not on the level of the show in its prime, this was a huge improvement over last week's episode and probably the best episode since season 6 episode 10. Bryan Cogman is clearly a much better writer than last week's Dave Hill.
My biggest script gripe was the jarring opening due to the pointlessness of Bran waiting all night in the courtyard for Jaime last episode and not having a conversation with him until later, and Theon's next level unexplainable teleportation skills.
Let's hope they don't resolve next week's battle with yet another lazy deus ex machina.

from a technical standpoint that was definitely the most impressive episode they've ever done. I could bitch about certain things I guess but whatever man, im not gonna be that guy, there's enough of those types on reddit and other nerd haven internet shitholes.

I will bitch about this much though. personally the episode took the wind out of my sails for the season a bit. Unlike most I actully really enjoy the white walkers and supernatural elements of the story and it seems thats basically over with. Now we are focusing down south which hasnt been interesting since season 6. Cersei has been reduced to smirking a lot and Euron is maybe the worst character this show has ever seen. I hated Ramsey but its not like the showrunners made him any different from in the books, other than making him really pretty. With Euron they went and took a mysterious, deeply unsettleing character and turned him into a 14 year olds fantasy of what a crazy evil psychopath is supposed to be. Everytime he opens his stupid mouth in a scene an episode instantly becomes worse.
Anyway, without the impending doom from the north it just feels like the stakes have been somewhat lowered.

i feel lame that i wrote that all up lol. maybe im just in a bad mood cause my hbo gave out midway through and it took like an hour tonget it working again. totally ruined the mood ya know.
It really was a hell of a spectacle. no denying that
I have a lot to say about the episode but then this guy goes and pretty much says all of it
credit where it's due to the parts that worked (library scene) but man I feel like this had the Prometheus/Alien Covenant curse of "every single character does the dumbest possible thing"
but also

I'm not going to nerdy nitpick for now. I'm just going to take it all in and enjoy that great war scene.

That write up calls for Arya to pretend to be Bran. For that to happen she would have to had to carve up Bran's face. Whiny nitpicky on failed outcomes without thinking why those boner outcomes wouldn't have worked.

This episode should've been the empire strikes back of the season. Instead they kill the emperor at the end of the movie and Return of the Jedi is all about retaking tatooine from Jabba the Hutt.
