if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

moved my preorder to 360 for controller supremacy. hopefully it doesn't suffer from port-itis as noted above

I seriously get panic attacks thinking about whether or not I can actually finish Dark Souls before Skyrim comes out a month later. I don't know if I can do it man. I just don't know.copstache wrote:i know man, it's tripping me out. i seriously haven't fully wrapped my head around the fact that the fall deluge is here

So, this game is geared to be more helpful towards the players?
i.e. They're gonna do a lot more explanation of the story and give hints throughout the game as to what to do?

The only question that I thought was hard was do I like Kirk, or do I like Picard?

my impression is pretty much the opposite. like it's probably more intuitive but twice as brutal. less confusing but more complex.CoconutBackwards1 wrote:So, this game is geared to be more helpful towards the players?

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
From what little I gleaned watching a QuickLook and reading the IGN review, it sounds crueler and more difficult but deeper...yeah what fbts said. Also, Magic got retooled and is more limited...for the better I think. It was far too easy to just blast enemies and bosses over and over with spells. The bonfire stuff sounds awesome, if you save at the bonfire all the enemies in the area respawn. . Invading games is supposed to be harder too, someone correct me if possible, but you have to join a covenant or something. Also you'll have to rely on your hand to hand more instead of magic to deal with invading players with magic getting re-tooled. Everything just sounds right on the money and exactly what a sequel should be.
All the voice acting seems like you could swap it out, put it right in Demon's Souls and not miss a beat. I will miss, "You've got a heart of gold, don't let them take it from you."

it's fucking bullshit is what it isfallbacktostone wrote:i mean i never beat demons souls but i still have no idea what world tendency means or how to change it or even how its implemented at all
it's cool in theory, and kind of useful in practice but the fact that you only have a certain number of attempts to get a world into pure black and that it automatically slides towards some unannounced median value is total, total crap
i know you can play offline to keep it from shifting on its own but that really defeats a lot of what makes the game unique
hopefully that's one of the things they've addressed

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
thank christ. it's one of the most clever things i've seen in a game, but it just didn't really pan out in practice. if there was a practical way to farm ephemeral eyes it would have been a little less awful
game is gonna rule

Re: The Dark Souls Thread
I dunno, there were so many stones of ephemeral eyes in the game, I really never had a problem getting pure black if I wanted to. I'm pretty sure I did all the black world tendency events in one playthrough when I got the platinum. White world tendency is a different story, though, you pretty much get one shot at it, sometimes two if you're lucky. And I agree the whole business with the global median didn't work. I seem to recall there are other mechanics in Dark Souls now where what other players do affects your game, so hopefully they've taken the cool part of the idea and turned it into something that actually works this time.
