Comedian Patrice O'Neal, who was the target of savage health-related insult comedy at last month's Comedy Central Roast for Charlie Sheen, has apparently suffered a serious stroke.
Fellow comic Jim Norton said on radio show "Opie and Anthony" Wednesday that his 41-year-old friend had suffered a serious stroke last week.
"We don't know how he is," Norton said. "We don't know how he's going to be. I didn't want to (reveal) this myself. I wish we had more news for you."
The New York-based O'Neal appeared on last month's highly-rated Comedy Central broadcast event alongside such fellow comedians as Amy Schumer (scene here with O'Neal and comedian Jon Lovitz, and came out the worse for it.
Moving off fellow roaster Mike Tyson to take aim at O'Neal, Schumer remarked, "Patrice has always been destined for stardom, and diabetes. So tonight is not just the roast of Charlie Sheen, its' also a farewell party for Patrice's foot."
For Comedy Central, which had planned to repeat the roast event on numorous more future occassions, jokes like that fall into the category of "way too soon."
For its part, "Opie and Anthony" released a statement on the show's Facebook page: "Our close friend Patrice O'Neal suffered a stroke last week," it reads. "Please respect his family and their request for privacy. An email has been set up for fans to send him well wishes and his family will make sure he gets them. You can write to LoveForPatrice@gmail.com. When we have an update on his condition, we will let you all know."

by How Are Mortiis Goatse?!
Chronically fat people build up plaque in their arteries which lead to atherosclerosis which in turn will eventually lead to a stroke. He should have seen this one coming the day the needle on his bathroom scale slid past the 200-lbs mark.

I am legitimately saddened by this news. Patrice is/was one of the funniest dudes in the business.

I know. Guy was on top of the world. My favourite comedian! I still enjoy opening up with "ladies .. you need to step it up in the bedroom" when meeting a new gaggle of females.

Genius is the only word for Patrice, dude. Get the fuck outta here with this shit.
I loved his mind and I'm just thankful I had the opportunity to get occasional glimpses into his thought process. I'm really never tremendously moved when artists die, even ones I appreciate a lot. People who crate static, stationary work that I can pick up and appreciate whenever I want; it's sad when those people go, but it's not like a personal loss or anything, because of that separation between me as a distant observer and them on the other side of the creation.
This guy though, more than any other person in his industry, was someone who would let me walk around the world through his eyes. Patrice genuinely changed the way I think about a whole lot of shit, and drew an enormous amount of social philosophy into question, even when I didn't agree with his conclusions. I often felt like I was witnessing the devil take pure evil and wrap it up in the most appealing, seductive package possible to wave around in front of my face to see if I'd take the bait.
It really seemed like his career was just starting to get some momentum in the real world, too. My favorite experiences with him were always on the radio, where you'd be able to hear him react to shit in real time, and just listen the way his mind worked through a conversational medium. It's a huge bummer that he won't be getting another shot at making a DVD or album or anything.
If anyone wants it, I have all the Black Phillip Show episodes in mp3 format. I could upload them or something.
Guy ruled; real loss, feel cheated.
