I think most of the tweaking was done to the stuff recorded on cell phones, but in any case I'll stay more hands-off since I really don't have a clue what I'm doing

Gimmie two more days.

I'm having a horrible fucking time trying to EQ my own vocals, and I've had to change the song like three times just trying to work around the horrible quality of my microphone/absolute lack of experience recording my own voice.

I think I have a good mix right now, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow and re-record the entire vocal track in a different time signature before I can be sure.

If I fail completely I'll just post everything I've made so far so you can all laugh and we can have a blooper reel for the contest

Maybe, but I think a big issue this time was that we tried to do it during Christmas, which probably wasn't such a good idea.

Something like the Ramones would probably be a lot less daunting to some people, but ideally you'd want a band whose music is both relatively easy and not boring, so not the Ramones. I think we should do Black Flag next.

with all those punk bands, why not just "do a punk song" ??? seems like the easiest solution with the broadest appeal and smallest required effort on the part of the contributors.

Wire and The Stooges would be great for fans of those bands, but I don't think you'd get too many people contributing. We could do another band, but we could also go for an era or sound:

If we're going to do a punk band, I'll stick with my vote for Black Flag, although Minor Threat would probably get a lot of people contributing, too. We definitely need to do Metallica some time in the future.
