When show hosts repeat the joke they've just made several times while their audience is laughing and clapping. Colbert is guilty of this and it annoys me to no end; it's as if they said "look, look, I made this great joke, aren't I great??!?!?!"

Controversial opinion of the day: Colbert is ok but I don't get the hype surrounding him at all. People act like he's this brilliant political analyst when he just makes decent jokes about politicians who are easy (but admittedly deserved) targets.

I caught a few bits on his broadcast one, they weren't terrible, but predictably safe and missing the tongue-in-cheek satire that made me obsessed with his comedy central stuff.

he's been a little better lately based on a few clips I've seen, getting back into the political stuff a bit more.

Jon Stewart's audience was intolerable, I'm sure I've complained about this here before, but he would get off comedy and go on a long winded humourless rant which would send his audience falling into rapturous applause at the end and the whole thing was so fucking disgusting it made me want to go check out what whoever the modern day Glenn Beck is is saying

I feel like John Oliver has the opposite problem. He and his team compiles a glut of research to make a serious point. They frame and build complex cases. But then he throws these jokes in to glue the points together and make it entertaining, and it reduces everything to a unipolar two-dimensional cartoon of the issue where you feel like you're listening to a 20 year old who's being sarcastic in a political discussion because they know they've hit the ceiling intellectually.
