i routinely call out bosses that call out or bully their employees publically if they do it in front of me. its the one knee jerk heroic thing i do without any self doubt or reservation whatsoever

id like to believe this board is full of heroes that would do the same

there's probably a fairly good chance that a decent percentage of those asshole bosses hold your white-knighting against the employee that you're defending, if not right after you're gone then on the next occasion that they get the opportunity

When I leave a detailed voice message for somebody, they call back and are all like "what's up?", and when I ask if they listened to my voicemail they just say "nah, I just saw that you called, what do you need?".

I am just very cynical of the ability of assholes to a) realize that they're assholes even when it's pointed out to them, and/or b) stop being assholes...

it's kind of like when the teacher tells everybody to be nice to the new kid... it's admirable to care and make the effort, but ultimately it just makes the new kid that much more of an outsider

I haven't listened to a cell phone voicemail since 2005.

I guess I just have the mind of a crotchety old man. I text a lot, but will resort to voicemail if I'm driving or if I'm trying to get a more immediate response. Fuck the future....

So turn off your voicemail? If someone has it, I assume they're going to use it. I totally agree about the superiority of text messages to phonecalls if that's what you're saying, but if I'm calling someone and get their voicemail, I'm not going to disconnect and write a text instead.
