I heard someone say this was worse than Revenge of the Sith.

You would have to be legitimately brain damaged to think something like that, let alone say it out loud.

I just saw it. Its a mixed bag of Empire, ROTJ, and prequel CGI time wasting. Still, better than any of the 3 prequels.

prequel apologetics is quickly becoming the norm

here's a petition for the last jedi director to be "removed"... from a guy who loves the prequels, of course

I posted a comment in the Sherdog TLJ thread along the same lines as the one here and people are already telling me that all of the prequels were in fact better.

Well, when I think good Star Wars i always go back to Jedis riding on iguanas while fighting robots with bronchitis.

Can these people not realize you can admire Portman’s midriff without also liking all the other shit that’s happening?

you can really tell a prequelite when you see someone complaining about snoke lacking a backstory

TLJ is like covenant in that it punishes me for thinking about it, for taking it seriously... it's almost as if this was a movie for children

I hear a lot of people saying "failure is the moral of this whole story"... but the poe/finn/rose/holdo fuckups killed basically everyone and there's almost zero reflection on the fact that fuckups occurred at all. I guess there's that moment where poe is like "it's OK to retreat sometimes"...

I so badly want to love the rey/ben vs. guards scene but why were the guards even fighting those two? they don't seem to have a boss anymore and if they do have a boss, it's ben! I guess they could be fighting for their lives because they knew they'd be witnesses to the betrayal, but I'm pretty sure they were the aggressors...

adam driver is really the only hope for a strong throughline in this weird-ass trilogy. rey is basically the same character as she was at the end of TFA. she could inexplicably mind-control people then, and now she can also lift rocks. her training montage of swinging a lightsaber around :x

I hadn't even watched the trailer 'til just now. it's just about perfect. I probably would've been flipping tables about the movie had I watched that first...

The whole Laura Dern character punished & gave weight to the loss & also called Poe on loosing the bomber squadron.

Fuck the prequels forever in their ass.

Good lord! Is every second of the previous Star Wars films filled with John Williams that you'd need such a warning? Was there a revolt against Rogue One's OST? Where does Shadows of the Empire fit in to all of this? Can deaf Star Wars fanboys hum the Imperial March? 😨

Finally saw it. What I don't understand is why there aren't more people complaining about how two thirds of the plot is only held together by flimsy technobabble. Thematically it's totally fine and everything they've done with the established characters and ideas works really well. Probably the weakest of the Disney SW movies, but still miles better than the prequels.

speaking of tecbobabble, the "ram via jump to hyperspace" thing made no sense to me, even though that scene was insanely aesthetically satisfying

hyperspace has to involve folding/wormhole stuff, not traditionally acceleration

the workaround would be engaging hyperdrive while crashing into the other ship, pulling a just a part of it into hyperspace (?) and then maybe a big explosion happens anyway

I'm about 99% sure, though, that it's explained at some point in A New Hope that they have to "plot a course" first to avoid crashing into things. Anyway, Star Wars isn't sci-fi, it's fantasy and full of space magic, so I can live with it getting its physics wrong for the sake of a visual/thematic payoff.

My problem was more, General Laura Dern was going to sacrice herself to provide a distraction while everyone else slips away (because apparently everyone simultaneously jumping ship doesn't register on the radar until someone explains otherwise), why didn't she just turn around and 9/11 that dreadnaught first chance she got anyway? Meanwhile, Rey apparently spends several days on Luke Durden's doorstep just waiting to be let into the house, yet all of this somehow takes six hours.
