The beta rebellion is slated to hit all the campuses local to me. I think it would be an excellent excuse to just walk up to any male student dressed in a club shirt with a flame print and hit them. Claim self-defense later? I feared for my safety.

For real though a PSA went out everywhere around philly, nobody is shutting down or anything, but people are talking about it.

I just imagine some fat guy with fingerless gloves and pants that have that weird wrong-crotch-fit bulge under the belt tumbling towards a crowd swinging a decorative katana...

Nonono, that comes from actual body fat - like the clothing conforming to the true shape of the body.

I mean when the button-area sinks down past the belt buckle because the crotch line is too low - so when you sit down and your MLP shirt pops up to show fuzzy bellyfat, abyss gazes back and the pants move also.

assuming we're talking about the same thing... the gut-tuck is a HUGE turning point in the evolution of the Fat Guy. I think it's normal and natural to be in denial about your big belly for a while, and to keep buying the smallest pants possible, forcing the gut up and over the false waistline defined by your clothing, located down around your hips. it produces a FLOP of tissue that can be overlooked for a time but as weight gain and skin stretching continue apace there shall come an inexorable moment that this flop will begin peeking out from under the shirt, alerting the world to its presence. there's also another state of fatness where your gut has become so incredible that it must be regarded as the despicable and unsightly new appendage that it is, and this results in the buying of pants that can encase the whole gut. I feel like this is the state of the truly actualized Fat Guy. I'm not totally sure that these two modes of existence interconvert, but it seems likely.

I enjoy thinking about the moment that a Fat Guy has finally come to accept his new form and is ready to abandon the flop; for the first time, he buys those pants shaped like the cheap, styrofoam ice cream cones. based on his garments' listed sizes, his waistline gains ten inches in one fateful moment; he will now be operating a zipper four times the length of the one that just minutes hence he would dig out from under the flop. the flop that is now concealed, relegated to a chamber of fabric that also houses his genitals, whose appearance and purpose are now forgotten.

I wonder if the shape of a Fat Guy body actually differs depending on the time he spends in denial. will flopping the gut over a straining brown leather woven belt induce exaggerated stretching compared to a strategy that keeps the respected belly enclosed during its growth? does a robust and full hemisphere of gut emerge if the owner/operator keeps his pants sized appropriately throughout his journey? I'm not yet sure if all huge-waistline dudes have the same thing going on under that foot-long zipper. I'd certainly rather have a firm, arcing landscape of lard than a flop that was born of denial and is now tucked away in shame.

There's an old guy in my neighborhood who's basically morbidly obese and still does what Ross calls the flop. Slacks on his waist that he somehow digs out of the fat that is otherwise literally spilling all around his belt in what I have to assume are custom tailored dress shirts. He looks like someone stuck two tiny doll legs into a plastic bag full of half melted ice cream. The first time I saw him, I couldn't even quite figure out what the hell was wrong with what I was looking at, like my brain had to figure out the underlying anatomy at first. He's out in the street pretty often. I imagine one day I'll realize I haven't seen him in a few months, and that'll be when his heart condition finally gets him.

UPDATE - gun pulled on CCP campus today. Everyone thought it was the beginning of The Beta Rebellion, but it was just normal philadelphian gun stuff.

The Beta Rebellion sounds like a weird 4-episode arc of Dr. Who stuff from 1973...

Fuck is this beta talk? Are these nuts so self loathing they identify themselves as inferior? Despite that in software speak Beta is better than Alpha. If I wanted to disassociate myself from some form of alpha male whatever I'd call myself OMEGA.

I don't want to derail this thread too much, but I have a question....

Is there a stigma to being fat in Europe? In America, no one gives a second look at someone who's fat because everyone is fat. Unless you're cartoon morbidly obese, being fat is normal. How are fat people viewed in Europe? Is it more frowned upon? I would imagine it's not as easy to be fat there.

Some of them do use the omega descriptor. None of it makes any sense at all though, all the language they use is just insanity poems shooting out of an echo chamber full of people who can't figure out how life works after puberty but feel qualified to examine society through unquantifiable bullshit like evolutionary psychology.

tbqh I had to think about this for a minute. Of course the answer is yes, but the fact that it took me a moment to even realize this shows you just how deep it goes. You can't get elephant size clothes at normal stores here, for example - very often not even online. If I see a 3XL option, that means I know it's an American company, and it means I have to check their sizing chart because I probably have to order a size smaller than usual. Your Ls tend to be like our XLs.

We do get the feminist version of the pro-fat garbage because we've got the femnisimses just as bad as you do, but it's really only acceptable in that particular context - obesity is on the rise here too, and nobody bats an eye when that's clearly discussed as being a problem as long as the focus is on the health problem and not skinny people being more attractive. Nobody would accuse Michelle Obama of fat shaming. There's also been open talk of higher health insurance rates for fats because they're unhealthy and it's their own fault. That hasn't happened and it probably won't, but it's not some shocking taboo idea that gets you shouted out of the room.

And really, that's probably what you meant, but I wouldn't call it stigma. It's just an observation of a fact. Being fat is unhealthy, and most people get fat from eating too much and exercising too little. I did, and then I did something about it.

Theory: my love for Candlemass is somehow subconsciously related to the number of times I watched the Running Man as a child
