I did listen to it a long time ago. I don't remember much about it. I didn't hate it. I might hate it nowadays. IIRC it's about a journalist type who joins up with Mystery and crew for a while like a Vice article or something.

Ooh, I think this is a key breakthrough actually. Good call.

neckbeard: I hear ya. I didn't realize that book was the exploratory one, I was thinking of his "Rules of the Game" which is his "how to" book... are there other cases where a journalist has infiltrated a "scene" and ended up dedicated the rest of their life to it?

ahaha, resurrecting this guy is such a great call - the loud atheist sector has been underrepresented here and this guy's diction is the best/worst I've heard since Kuta

his summary (at 4:05) is fucking pathetic (since it's not being delivered in a Bill & Ted movie) - aetheism fails to delivery a moral framework once again

to that guy's credit, he lost 70 lb in 7 months :o

I'm still fascinated over the fact that PUAs seemingly overlook the fact that plenty of other men peacock without ridiculous feather boas or fedoras. It's like they've completely overlooked cars, nice suits, neckties, luxury watches, etc. Plenty of guys with the right resources (or maybe just checks from the state) use less embarassing accessories for this kind of thing.

To a much more niche extent, grindcore has actually been enough of an accidental peacocking technique for me, or like people asking about my Defeated Sanity shirt when I'm out in some dumpy house club. I really should start my holla holla holla at girls at intersections when I'm blasting Last Days of Humanity from my car.

A fully rational person should realize that a subculture that promises to get you laid by the use of card tricks is full of shit, and naturally it would go away. Fedora arbitrage.

But it exists, so they must not be fully rational. No surprise.

I think the issue with the generic nice/flashy appearance stuff is that the market is already saturated - it'd work great if the competition was all shlubs but in da club there are plenty of people already doing that so you gotta stand out

like... with a card trick

well, Geoff, you've always been a guy who bames on easy mode, right? the PUA guys are trying to bame on ultra-hard mode where they bang the most attractive females (as determined by MAXIM magazine) by whatever means necessary. it's not like there's a long game there - they have just decided that they want to have sex with these women and that's enough motivation to look like a clown and foster a persona dedicated to manipulation and scheming.
Based mostly on reading The Game and subsequent research of PUA forums, it may be an end-game goal to bang maxim top100 women, but there are most of these (tittysex ?) instances being "settling for an 8 for the night" when there are no dimepieces around, or what seemed to be the most common theme was getting a 10's digits being the ultimate success. It seemed that getting laid wasn't the important part of the transaction to these dudes, but winning out against and overcoming a woman's coldness or disinterest. I'm not sure, maybe it was just excuses, but so many of the guys acted like the shit was done once they got a big IOI or the woman's number. Like the sex was an optional side quest.

Re. Storm Shadow's guess that Adam the Alien and his posse are theatre kids, I absolutely detest the performing arts students at school for all their loud, pay attention to meeeee, acting out.

The difference with them, however, is that they're attractive people.

my brother was a theater kid. I haven't seen that show...but his friends all broke out into song and all thought madtv was funny. is that a feature of glee? they also talked a lot about grammar.

they were all really gay, but every time one of them was discovered as being gay, the others (pretending REALLY HARD to be straight) would torment the outed party to no end. the lead in all of the plays was this lispy greasy-thin-haired goblin with a scoliosis back brace and really good voice. as gross as most of them were, anyway, the fucking stage crew looked like they had been worked on by a distracted dr. moreau

Research is clearly still ongoing, but I think you're made an important distinction. Being a theater kid alone is definitely not enough to yield this particular nerd morphology--but being an ugly theater kid, combined with a developing interest in traditional "geek" pursuits (like say fan fiction and cosplay) may prove to consistently yield the above phenotype.

that laundry list of his social media outlets would be a bit more compelling if it helped me find any info on his sexuality

i mentioned this elsewhere but the new girl at work is a furry. we worked together the other day and bronies came up when she was saying how furries get a bad rap on the internet and pretty much everywhere. she got a quizzical look on her face i told her that it can't be so bad for them now that bronies have knocked them out of the hatelight. i decided to dig further and discovered that some of her furry friends are bronies, so there's that...

next topics will be fedoras, feminism, and yiffing. this is all very exciting for me.
