The Turbonegro dudes suck so hard and are pretty much the least punk people ever. Happy Tom has a centrist, pro-establishment talk show and Hank is god damn Scientologist. They lament the fact that other bands make music that sounds cool on drugs and claim that Turbonegro is music for people who "just wanna drink a few beers."

There is also something extremely pathetic and cringey about a bunch of grown ass upper middle class straight white men from Norway in 2018 calling themselves "turbonegro" and ironically co-opting gay culture aesthetics for edgelord reasons.

HMG, that summary is entertaining, depressing, and not too surprising. I am no sort of "fan", I just like their music well enough and thought it'd be a fun thing to see live.

berkeley's actually an appropriate place for that band - a sheen of edgy politics but only from a place of great social comfort

They got some all right songs on Ass Cobra and the earlier stuff but their best riffs are shamelessly stolen from other bands. But they don't have any material that rises above "fun party rock." I don't like Knut Schreiner, his guitar playing, his pre-Turbonegro bands (Kåre & The Cavemen, Euroboys), his stupid opinions (he used to write a lot of hackneyed opinion pieces in a Norwegian paper), punchable face and off-putting personality so anything after he joined I find unpalatable.

In 2003 I saw them live in a Norwegian arena and a club in Minneapolis within two months and it was staggering how much of an effort they put in in Minneapolis compared to Norway. You could tell in Norway they're part of mainstream celebrity culture while in the US they're more of an underground/cult thing based on the huge difference between the atmosphere in the two settings.

I'm trying to remember the name of this game. Pretty sure I found out about it here. It was like a RPG or roguelike thing for mac. It was tiled, top down. Kind of low tech, small window, but it really spun up my laptop fan.
