it doesn't have to be at the beginning of the song, ofc

I’d say this counts because the first guitar part isn’t playing a riff
Would this qualify?

The outro of the last song of the album is the intro of the next album

goddamnit cascade whore
when I saw all the posts I thought "ahhh, good ol' CW, can always count on him..."
and then I listened to most of these and I have to append "...to fuck things up"
aside from jigsore*, most of these are just drums being played first. I think the first vids I posted go beyond that, with an unusual drum part mirroring the guitar work that eventually joins in. some of yours are actually contrapuntal, which is awesome but totally opposed to my GRAND VISION here
*maybe this is totally fucking obvious, but I laughed the first time it clicked that british people add the R sound to everything, so "jigsaw" already sounds like "jigsore" for them in the first place

I feel like that slough feg is a better example than some from your original post! I might be too dumb to hear it right in the highly technical stuff

Would “weak minds” fall in the contrapuntal category?

no, I guess? it's just a drum beat and then some sustained guitar chords. not much interplay IMO. not sure exactly what part(s) you're talking about, though

The drums take up a long portion of the beginning of the song with the spoken word section and actually play more complex “riffs” then the guitar parts.
