Music posts are a bannable offense.

Emphasis on production over songwriting in modern popular music

Post by The Arsonist »

There was a thread here a while back in which someone was talking about how popular music has seen a shift from an emphasis on songwriting to an emphasis on production.
Can anyone help me find that thread? or just talk about this phenomenon here.
I think there might have even been a paper that was linked regarding this topic.

that sounds like an old-ass thread and it was probably pruned because the memory stick that houses this forum was full

I think I asked about something like that once... I definitely wondered specifically about mixing music to be appreciated when coming out of a cell phone or laptop speakers... maybe a different topic

if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Yeah... that sounds like the same thread in question. Oh well, at least I know I didn't imagine it.

It'll be fun to see if everyone pretends not to notice.

Fact #7
From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.

Production is a gimmick. Songwriting is all that matters.

I like to play with this, then actually put a track on my phone and compare them in realtime

Then I started dumping phone-filters on a track using MixChecker and playing it on my monitors, and then on an 80s hifi setup, and going full galaxy-brain neurotic comparing the destroyed low-end on both
