Last 30 days in X (twitter) - not chronological:
  1. Changed name to X, disposing of a hugely recognizable brand in favor of one that's more associated with porn. Tweets are now posts.
  2. Erected a new sign that fired insanely bright LED rave patterns, inevitably needing to be taken down to meet building codes and avoid further fines.
  3. Musk personally reinstated far right account that posted an image from the most notorious child abuse videos - made by Australian Peter Scully (sentenced to life in prison + 129 years in 2022). The account was banned after it was public for 3 days - racking up over 3 million views.
  4. Richard Hanania, writer and influencer of tech moguls, is exposed as a white supremacist - then Elon follows his account.
  5. After agreeing to fight Zuckerberg, Musk backs out stating that he needs surgery, but then tries to show up at his house while Zuckerberg isn't home to have it out.
  6. Elon offers to pay legal fees (no limit) for anyone who is treated unfairly due to their posting or liking posts on X.
  7. X is suing the Center for Countering Digital Hate for documenting a rise in hate speech on the platform.
  8. Outbound traffic to select websites like threads.net, NY Times, and other perceived enemies of Musk, is throttled. Upon being exposed, throttling is immediately removed.
I have probably forgotten some things - but 30 days?

Tucker Carlson hosted an interview with RFK Jr. full of very dangerous misinformation about the experts.

There is some story that claimed he is whacked out on ambien and special K ( or maybe just taking smaller amounts of ketamine to help depression. I guess money doesn't buy happiness )

For a lot of people (not me), when they try to visit x.com, their browser will autofill the URL bar with xvideos.com and xhamster.com.... i wonder how many people will get in trouble for that

Like "here let me show you this thing on twitter" and you pull out the phone but then your thumb accidentally opens "angry grandma gets busty revenge " because you've visited it so many times that Google thinks you don't have time to search for it manually anymore

LOL solid points. I thought the term "retweet" was so fucking stupid, but I can't deny I'm a bit wistful about its departure, especially since it has been replaced by "repost". some bright person I know was flabbergasted by elon doing this rebrand... the main value of twitter was that it was twitter!

OK, so re: your "x" autocomplete scenario...

I have a work laptop and a personal laptop... the latter is used almost exclusively for porn. I never look at anything sketchy/embarrasing outside of private browsing, so my browser history remains generally "clean". as long as I close the tabs etc... it seems pretty safe.

once in a while I end up using that porn laptop for some work-related Zoom thing. you would THINK that simply closing all your porno content would be sufficient protection, but recently I realized (in a non-disaster scenario) that my dumbass laptop has a little window that - when you adjust the volume - shows the last thing that was producing sound on the computer... even if that thing is not still going. so I could be on a work call, realize the computer is muted, and then adjust the volume on my screen-shared computer, just to have a little box pop up saying "piss-drinking slut can't stop cumming" or whatever. even though I know this threat is lurking, I don't feel confident that I can evade it forever...

I still type in t-w-i every time. I don't have any particular emotional attachment to Twitter - it's always been the bleeding anus of social media, and when Elmo Mux bought it, I probably joked about a dozen times that if he destroyed Twitter, he'd finally have done something for the greater good of humanity. The fact that I still use the old URL just proves how much more memorable it was as a brand.

I will say, though, that I'm thoroughly enjoying how Elmo's running it into the ground. If you made up a cartoonishly incompetent billionaire whose only eccomplishments in live have always consisted of throwing other people's money at things, you probably still wouldn't write a plotline where he's basically a tech guy who buys one of the three most recognizable internet brands in the history of computers and then fires everyone who works for the company and rebrands it to the most generic thing imaginable. People would just roll their eyes and say nobody's that stupid.

If you sign in into Google in both laptops they will synchronize all their google crap (including history and auto complete) which is both good and bad.

For privacy the best would be to never sign in into Google in your work's laptop or to have a second Google account for that. But that had its disadvantages as well.

First world problems.

I have Firefox on my Faputer and only use that for porn. That way I can be signed in to Google at work and not have to worry about crossing the streams.

yeah I realized this years ago, and it was pretty shocking/annoying

when I’m in private, my personal gmail(s) are signed in there, and normal browser gets my work login (which is google). I’ve never noticed any cross-talk re: history or autocomplete… but I’m sure THEY KNOW

It is actually very difficult to stop Google from spying on you once you have been logged into Google from that device. You can try whatever you want but in most cases Google will outsmart you. Most shocking, even in incognito mode Google will spy on you, incognito mode only stops the browser from writting cookies and browsing history in your disk, but Google still knows what you are doing even in NON GOOGLE sites using their Google Services (Google Analytics, Google Ads and so on), they track still track you. Browsing from a non-Google browser does not guarantee anything because Google Analytics and Ads are embedded in the websites themselves. Using a Browser with emphasis in privacy (i.e. Brave) and/or a VPN might help as long as you do not let Google know it is you, but most probably you will.

But not everything is dark, Apple has been pushing for reducing the tracking and they are winning some battles. And third party cookies will be removed from Chrome somewhere in 2024, this is the main tool for cross-site tracking. But Google still will be able to track you.

krieg: I am pretty aware of the stuff you’re saying, but pragmatically I don’t see how it will impact me

i think all of us grew up in a time when our family’s name, address, and phone number were listed in a book that all our neighbors had… that alone seems like a massive concern compared to some database knowing what makes my dick hard

Privacy is a bigger matter in Europe, people here are worried one day the governments will take (again) targeted decisions based on data they collect from us.

The federal police in Switzerland just had a major data leak. You can't trust any of this shit. Like Krieg says, maybe we're just a bit more wary of having our data collected here because of historical reasons, but there's also the simple fact that all of this data is being collected by people who are incompetent fucktards and if something bad happens it's more likely to be out of negligence than malice, which is even worse.

Having said that, though, for me personally, once I'd downloaded all the data Google had on me a few years ago (Chrome allows that, I think it's called "Google takeout", but I can't be bothered to look it up now) and realized just how many gigs and gigs of information they had, I basically gave up on the idea of ever having privacy again and now I just kind of pretend I don't know what's happening all while Google is showing me ads for things I talked about on the phone last week.

They used the old Zuse Z3 for that.

(Yeah, the Nazis beat everyone to digital computing by 4 years, too)
