I really liked that they showed Batman doing some actual detective stuff for once, the problem was just that the movie had a really good ending and then it went on for another 30 minutes.

Re Hard Target - the reason this is good is because it's not a JCVD movie, it's a John Woo movie that JCVD somehow stumbled into.

i've seen balthazar getty a few times in bars down here with weird people around him. the whole story of that family is pretty incredible
Wait, holy shit - the kidnapped guy was Balthazar's dad? Fucking hell.
i forget how he's related exactly but yeah he's a member of that family. he's very briefly in the video that was posted and it reminded me that i'd seen him around a couple times. i have a hot headed friend who got into an extremely minor and very gay ego-scuffle with him trying to order drinks on top of one another at a crowded spot

The Batman ('22) - 6.5/10 - Pretty conflicted on this flick... I agree with Spacehamster that it was good to see the detective put back in Detective Comics. I like Pattinson in general and think he did a pretty good job, but I didn't need the extended shots of him just staring at people and being melancholic all the time. I really liked the Batmobile that felt like a throwback to the OG show mixed with an early 70s muscle car. Unfortunately, Gordon and Alfred felt miscast - and I like both Wright and Serkis usually. Overall, it felt tonally confused for some reason and I lost interest around 2.5 hours in. I'm going to give it another shot this weekend to see if maybe I wasn't in the right mood - but I might be burnt out on superhero flicks in general.

Same with Wayne death being mob related... for 5 minutes, immediately clarified with no impact on anything.

The Bride With White Hair - 7.5/10
I think it's the best Wuxia film I've ever seen. Peter Pau delivers great visuals, the costumes are interesting, there's a surprising amount of gore, Brigitte Lin's stare is intoxicating, and Leslie Cheung is wonderful as usual. The story is a variation of Romeo & Juliet and it works pretty well.

Because it’s a thing from The Long Dark Halloween graphic novel and they wanted to shoehorn stuffs from that.

Really? I remembered the Wayne/mob thing being from TLH but not a Catwoman connection at all. I only read that shit once though, like 17 years ago...

Tim Sale's art is a serious contender for GOAT (Darwyn Cooke beats him out for me)
