If they keep consuming the merchandise, there's a good chance it will last much longer than most network kid's cartoon shows. All of that shit is obviously just a toy commercial, and the viability for shows like this is basically carved in stone from the moment it airs - run it for as many years as the inital target demographic will be of suitable age.

There are plenty of examples of American animated shows with very very good ratings getting shitcanned simply because they figure the 8-year old who liked the pilot episode is now a 10-year old who will probably stop buying toys soon.

It's not at all uncommon for mutant adults like me to make up a sizable chunk of the merchandise consumptionbase... but I seriously doubt that there's ever been a situation quite like this.

One of the voice actresses who does MLP is a chick I'm a fan of from other shit (Tara Strong), and I heard a very long interview with her not long ago where she went into some pretty fascinating detail about her perception of Bronies and how the phenomenon has affected the production of the show. The people who produce the thing are now actively courting the bronies themselves, from what I understand; the fanbase has changed their object of fascination simply by existing loudly.

We may be in for a long ride.
