I don't remember Roman Catholic priests praising the Gracie sons as being Warriors of God.

Oh GREAT.
I wondered why the company I work for has so many accounts for [mixed and traditional] martial arts schools in this state.
Now I know, it's "Karate for Christ", or "Jujitsu for Jesus" or something similar.
There was supposed to be a certain pacificism in the message Jesus preached, if I read that book correctly. And here we are, kicking ass for the Lord.

This kind of ties back to the idea of Jesus for the modern evangelical movement, it has little to do with the bible and more to do with traditional masculinity, the ubermensch, etc... Jesus is a powerful person because he is a powerful personality, like Hitler, Mao, Stalin in their opinion, not because of anything he does really in terms of forgiving whores, and transgressors or turning the other cheek. Power is power to be worshiped for it's own inherent virtue, says the Jesus of the corporate world, the evangelicals, etc....takeasneededforpain wrote: There was supposed to be a certain pacificism in the message Jesus preached, if I read that book correctly. This was my favorite part, LOL. My least favorite part is when they take it out on some gay dudes or Arabs. Warriors for Christ. But on that cold night in Memphis, Mr. Renken, the pastor from Xtreme Ministries, watched as two of his three fighters were beaten, one emerging with a broken ankle.
Another, Jesse Johnson, 20, a potential convert, was subdued in a chokehold and decided not to return home with the other church members after his bout. He stayed in Memphis, drinking and carousing with friends along Beale Street, this city’s raucous, neon-lighted strip of bars.

you can walk from one end of Beale St and back in like, 1 minute, and visit all three bars
