I am not totally sure you can go from anti-olympics to guy just because things went well for you guys? But I hope you can!
i'm going to point out when someone is misrepresenting the situation as something laughable when it isn't. i love the olympics as an incredible amount of effort and dedication culminating in a show of focus and performance; being the absolute best in the world at something is really interesting. that said, i still wish the olympics hadn't happened here-- i'll take teachers and health care over fucking games any day of the week. i can't believe anyone thinking this shit was worth the financial gutting that is and will be taking place because of it.
i assure you i am in no way about any of this as i personally won absolutely zero gold medals and the relevance of borders to me is only to serve as a frustration when i want to see bands.
Yeah, but your point is only salient if VANOC took a loss on the Olympics. Er, maybe not even VANOC; the cigty of Vancouver... or because we're a socialist nation, the country of Canada.
Most of the 'costs' that people are butthurt about are things that needed to be fixed anyways, like the sea-to-sky highway.
Considering the amount of red mitts The Bay has sold I don't see the country not coming out ahead on this one at all.

and things like teachers and surgeries... who the fuck wants education or proper health care ? oh and two weeks of the largest police force in fucking history.
jesus christ man, i know you love being the voice of reason and everything but the price tag on this shit was absolutely inexcusable and it's going to be a huge long term issue.

Yeah... but if they spent 500 million and made 550 million, who fucking cares? I'm talking about cost/benefit here... do you see anyone taking a loss on this one? I know the numbers aren't in so no-one can say for sure... but I don't.
i don't see any of the corporate sponsors taking a loss, of course not. but where are the revenues going ? pretty much all of them are to private sources here, right ? i mean you're bringing up the bay and i know it's facetious but pretty much all of the revenue dollars are going to hotels, venues, restaurants, and souvenir retailers. i'm sure a cut of some of that goes to the city (like venue tickets) but years worth of surgery have been postponed and teachers have been laid off and schools have been closed because there is no fucking funding for them. where's all that money ? building malfunctioning torches, own the podium, five star IOC accommodations-- insane shit like this is NOT more important than education and health. absolutely indefensible.

Eh, it's the local scummy dive punk bar. It should probably be more expensive but I'm not going to press the issue."Hey, you guis should sell this for more bux!!"
The local "pub" sells 'em for $4.75 a pint which is more than I'm willing to pay....

One good thing that I noticed about the Olympics is that it actually got Americans, again, to realize that there are other countries in the world and despite the socialist horror of their incredibly backward/oppressed/stick-in-the-mud economies they quite effortlessly beat us at the competitions Americans hold dearest: useless feats of strength and/or agility.
wouldn't it have made more sense to host it in calgary as they already had some of the infrastructure set up from back in '88 ? or is there some kind of change of venue rule ?
i'm glad i live in a cheap ass city that would never stand for hosting this shit.
