I completely ignored the Riddler trophies in AA and had no problem with insufficient XP. The interview tapes totally rule, though.

getting platinum in batman was such a hellish/rewarding experience. defeating all the challenge levels was childhood levels of controller throwing/fist-pumping

The interview tapes are awesome, but you don't really have to search high and low for them. I'm done hunting the trophies, though, unless it's really quick to grab. Also, I really could care less what the spirit of Arkham has been babbling about. I think I've leveled up enough to finish the game, and I'm sure I'll level up a bit more from combat before the end. Only thing I have left are gadget upgrades and I've never used the two-Batarangs nor the remote. Hate the sonic-rang, wish I never got that upgrade. I'll level off the gel, as I've found it to be an awesome trap so late in the game. But, yeah, all combat, basic batarang, armor, and the EMP thing have all been filled.
I doubt I have too much more to go. I've been playing hours and hours and I'm finally on my way to make my wife a nice gator skin hand bag.
Sucks I didn't get to actually fight Harley Quinn myself. Might have given me a hard on.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
P.S. I love the air of this game, much akin to Riddick, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2 and original Half-Life. It's my favorite. I think I will call this the "Die Hard* Felling". That sort of claustrophobic trapped in a building, city, island, or whatever closed off area where your in way over your head and events takes place within only about a day's (better yet a night's) time. Also, the game doesn't suddenly say, oh now you are at another part of a section without you traveling there yourself (so Bioshock does not get this feeling right). Finally, at the end of the game you feel like your character should go home bloody and bruised; open a bottle of beer in front of the TV and fall asleep in a second, because, holy shit, what a night.
Here's hoping that Dead Island also has this feeling. Which it won't, I bet it feels more like Far Cry. Close, but not quite two porn stars double ended dildo-ing each other as a dog does back-flips and a Kangaroo waves the Colonial American flag in the background to the tune of Can-Can from Orpheus in the Underground.
* you know original Die Hard with Bruce Willis http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095016/

hah... i'm pretty bad too, but once i got used to jumping around the environments and the controls in general i was surprised how much fun i was having. having to click the left stick to sprint is a little weird. i do hope they change that. overall though, i'm pretty impressed.Pisscubes wrote:Just downloaded this.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
well... i only played the demo of uncharted 1 and wasn't impressed that much at all, but i liked uncharted 2 a lot. one common criticism of uncharted 1 is the pattern of entering a room, fighting a bunch of enemies, repeat. uncharted 2 on the other hand has really solid pacing and incredibly varied environments. it's not the best game ever or anything, and as far as third-person adventure games i like batman and castlevania: lords of shadow more, but i do think you'd probably enjoy it more than the first uncharted.Pisscubes wrote:I'm playing through Uncharted now and while parts of it are fun it's not as amazing as I had thought it would. It just feels really repetitive to me, but I know that's an unfair criticism since most games just repeat the same shit over and over. I think if the combat mechanics were better, I'd like it more. For instance, I never got sick of combat in Infamous (1). I just feel like Uncharted combat is clunky. Is Uncharted 2 tighter? In the way maybe Mass Effect 2 made the combat so much better from Mass Effect 1?
edit: i can't remember the controls of uncharted 1 very well, but i think the general consensus is that a lot of good tweaks were made to the mechanics in uncharted 2, and it sounds like there are some good ones coming for uncharted 3 also.

yeah man, uncharted 1 was a fun game, but uncharted 2 is considerably better. a lot more variety, some pretty neat puzzles and platforming, and a lot less of the "oh cool ANOTHER room full of bad guys."

*Cough* As I said earlier, come to me first about games, Admiral. I KNOW what you like. I'm the one that told you to get Batman (a game I'm not play till now) just based on a demo. Peoples' forget I'm the drunk guy that used to sleep over your apartment randomly from time to time and tell you great stories of the Pink Ranger. Hell, I was there for the great, "oh look, a hobo!" moment in Blood 2, a rare bonding moment few heterosexual males can share together.Pisscubes wrote:I'm playing through Uncharted now and while parts of it are fun it's not as amazing as I had thought it would. oh my god dude... that's probably one of my top 5 gaming moments. i was simultaneously blown away by the technical accomplishment of that part and the intensity of the combat that was going on. its probably worth playing U2 just for that IMO.riley-o wrote:also the train level is pure

there have been so many train levels in games, but that one just kept getting more and more awesome. the way the background environments changed as you moved higher up the mountain created such an immersive experience. when it started snowing i almost cried because it was so beautifulSpooky Apparition wrote:oh my god dude... that's probably one of my top 5 gaming moments. i was simultaneously blown away by the technical accomplishment of that part and the intensity of the combat that was going on. its probably worth playing U2 just for that IMO.riley-o wrote:also the train level is pure

two games caught my eye on xbla yesterday. risen and sacred 2. risen completely slipped under my radar and i kinda remember sacred 2 but never followed up on it.
did anyone play those?
i also played the duke demo yesterday. if they had priced that thing 15-20 bucks it wouldve been amazing. i cannot believe anyone payed full price for that shit though.

Re: The Bill's Now Playing Video Game Thread (Now with Bames
Wow, the parallels to Batman and Riddick just keep adding up. I swear Batman is a sequel with certain obvious differences( brawler vs FPS) take away the Batman window dressings, and many well deserved evolutions to the formula but very much akin. Even that stupid Killer Croc level was like that stupid cannibal underground Riddick level, where you have to round around a maze finding something that you would remember from a month's time from now. It's not obvious alike, but shades alike.
I have to ask though. Does Batman gain physical battle damage based on cut-scenes, or is it your own failures at self defense that leads to the look? Five o' clock shadow wins, though. If it's due to your actions I might want to let Bats take a beating to see what a mess he'll look like.
Starting to get insecure and thinking half of you have me foe'd. Was it the Alice remarks? The Bill just has to be a The Bill, you know.
