they didn't really go into the star in a reasonably priced car deal. i'm really hoping for a leaderboard thingy for it

my dream would be to have a mode that keeps track of your best lap times for each car on that course, like the FXX got so and so time, the Scirocco got so and so, but arranged like the board in top gear
if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Downloading Witcher 2, finally.
This better blow Bioware and Bethesda out of the water!

That's crazy talk. Skyrim and TW2 complement each other quite well.

It's more like "fuck Bioware" because DA2 was so painfully bad.

Well, it's obvious that there's an "A-team" and a "B-team" at Bioware. Mass Effect being the A-team. (The Old republic would be the C-team which probably borrows heavily from all departments).
So I never say "fuck X-developer", because of one bad game. I do agree, though. I played about 1/3 through DA2 and I haven't touched it since.

TW2 is insane, btw. Love this game.

I'd imagine the A team has been working on TOR for at least two-three years..

Dragon Age 2 was more than a bad game though...the pre-order shit, this constant push to convert non-rpg playing fans, Bioware again cutting things out that "didn't work / fans didn't like" versus improving those things, acting like that game was exactly what they envisioned and people criticizing it were delusional. Their whole attitude stinks these days and EA publishing their games makes it even easier to go from day 1 to whenever I get around to them.

When you've been a fan of a studio for over a decade, that kind of stuff stings. Luckily, there are always new, young studios (like CDProjekt Red) that come out and beat the veteran studios at their own game.

Diablo III: No Mods, Online-Only, Cash Trades

The morning brings a trio of horror-news about Diablo III. I’m outright bewildered about what Blizzard have done, and shuddering about the likely reaction in comments. I won’t muck around here, and instead shall just wade straight into the things that are probably going to end up being PC gaming’s biggest controversy of 2011.

1) The game requires a constant internet connection. It cannot be played offline.
2) Mods are “expressly prohibited.”
3) Items in the auction house are bought and sold for real-life money.

Uh-oh.

:x

Excited until we actually played it. It's a horrible game that was sold purely on the goodwill created by the first game and the Bioware name. Never again will I fall for Bioware's tricks.

Diablo III...Blizzard are geniuses. They're going to rake in so much loot from that auction house. Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't that sort of stuff, auctioning off in game items, already been going on unofficialy in the previous Diablo games? Can't blame Blizzard for wanting a piece of the pie and regulating it.

the only part of that that truly pisses me off is the "always connected to the internet" bit

you can't tell me that they can't think of a better way to prevent cheating/hacking items than that. i'm always connected to the internet in theory, but what if my laptop loses signal? what if the speed drops and i get disconnected? does it just throw you to the title screen? do you lose items or progress?

it's stupid. and if they weren't (officially) monetizing trades then this shit wouldn't matter. but here's the crazy thing: so what if people hack items? it's diablo, not WoW. do people really care that much? if there isn't a conduit for making money, then the only person they're cheating is themselves.

But then who'd be making Mass Effect 3? :p

.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know what they were thinking. I actually thought Dragon Age 1 had some pretty nasty graphics, but the game was awesome! It's obvious someone high up said "We need more resources for better graphics! Oh yeah and I have to pause during battle? That's gotta go". Shame.

Btw, I think I kind of suck at the Witcher 2. The Kayran boss just kept leveling me for like hours last night. I mean, I must have beat it 5 times before I realized what I was supposed to do after you take a ride on his tentacle. But still....

Killer game, though. One of the cooler bosses I've seen in awhile.

Just saw this today. Looks like a cool version of Black & White to me. Did anyone play "Populous"? I've never even heard of that one.

It's a lot like Populous, I think (from what I remember of it, anyway).
The water effects are really slick looking!

It's at least worth checking out the trial, but I bought it and I dig it.

I'm really enjoying Dredmor. I know the creator personally (they're based out of Victoria) and he's put a lot of heart and soul into it. Dude is also thoroughly 110% nerd.

i would have guessed he was english based on some of the jokes. i've played 11 hours and am still pretty far from getting a character to the end, although that might have something to do with the difficulty level and my refusal to lower it. i have almost no complaints with it, it's a really well put together game. best $5 spent in a while

From what I gathered based on visits, most of his family has a pretty rich english background, earl gray/biscuits and all. He's done a lot of stuff in the games industry, mostly programming related.

Miscellany: Dude also has a pretty extensive jazz background, last I remember hanging out with him was he was up to two classic Rhodes and a Hammond B3.

Needless to say, I'm really happy that he's getting some good reviews and feedback on his work, considering it's a small crew of people over there, and the guys got a wife and kid as well.

I'm playing on Medium with permadeath and right now my hand-to-hand vampire is kicking the shit out of everything.
