Delayed to 2012. Good move because that game was being sent out to die.

yeah. remember like two years ago when people actually tried to spread out their releases over the year? SO MUCH FOR THAT
if there's anybody in the world who'd be fucking unobservant enough to actually damage themselves with trap-soap I guess it'd be the guy with dialup in 2007

Right. It's weird more studios don't put out games during the summer. It's wide open basically.

Supposedly they're announcing something big for the game at Gamescom. God I hope it's an expansion.

Yeah, a lot of titles got pushed back like Dues Ex. I think Alice was the best game of the summer. Followed by Fear 3. And then there was Duke Nukem Forever, dead last.

Is "Brink" any good? I don't read reviews, but I see this on sale everywhere. When I can get my wireless shit to work I'd like a new MP shooter because TF2 is horrendous lately.

Threw in the towel after neither patch would install. I could only assume those fixed the combat because the game basically seemed unplayable otherwise. :(

Yup.

Also-- what's with the NEW Silent Hill? I know I shouldn't be expecting anything at all since that franchise has beyond sucked for a while but... still... I hope.
All I know is that it has a water or rain motif going on, and I really hope water doesn't some how turn into a gimmick. Better not be any sort of hold breath-o-meter at any point :betternotstartanyshit:

Philosophical question: how come there's so much outrage when people remake movies but almost none when people remake games? And why do book remakes only come in the form of translations?

You're still experience that medium the exact same way you would be if it were written 100 years ago. OK, sure, you can read it on a screen now, but it's still the same fucking thing.
We have so many more words now, though! And I guess people could change the setting to the contemporary, just as is done in movies (along with the updated technical components).

And :betternotstartanyshit: for pretending there's only 2 of The Thing... I've still never watched the original though it looks nice.

I just asked a question? And I'm a reading dunce, too, remember...

I figured this'd be easy for a non-dunce to answer.

there are two basic forms of game remakes. well, three if you count reboots. there's HD/next-gen remakes (perfect dark xbla, beyond good & evil hd, Halo: CE HD, ocarina of time 3d) which are basically the exact same games but beautified. there's little to no backlash on those, save for the inevitable pedantic assholes.

remakes are much less common. stuff like MGS: Twin Snakes and the recent wii/ps2 remake of the first Silent Hill. those generally go on a case-by-case basis. Twin Snakes has its good moments but it also kind of misses the mark and loses a lot of the charm of MGS1.

reboots DO catch a lot of flak. look at XCOM. even if it's a good game (entirely possible), it's a slap in the face to X-Com fans, which isn't helped by the developers saying that turn-based strategy is 'out of style.'

i guess there's another option, like the zelda series, which is the same game over and over basically

also you don't get a lot of the backlash unless you pay attention to actual gaming outlets since that's not something that usually comes up in mainstream press

There's a patch coming for Duke Nukem Forever that adds the capacity to carry four weapons instead of two. For all you waiting to get the game dirt cheap down the road, this one little change makes a huge difference and I imagine would have made the game a lot more enjoyable when I played it. No way is this going to suddenly turn it into a good game, but it would move it up from terrible to crappy.

yeah like i said before, i'm sure it's a fun $15 game but no way am i paying more than that. i didn't know about the 2-gun limit until i saw the news post about that patch. they really missed the point in a lot of ways didn't they?

yeah same here. although i think rushing through the gaming abortion known as dragon age 2 in june helped contribute to my own summer gaming lull. i still have alice to finish, but i think tonight i'll probably just lay on my couch eating pizza staring off into space wishing it was september or october... shit :(

wait, DNF originally only had two weapons, like halo style? one of the best things about those games was trying to decide which of your 12 weapons to use at any given time. come on guys
