Well the aggressive novelty factor makes her quite a bit less boring in this case than many of her peers. And she seems to be a pretty right on chick for a superstar. And "Paparazzi" is an absolutely fantastic song. But I haven't heard anything else she's done since (and I've frequently sampled via this thread) that's really elevated her into the special category beyond being a temporary pop phenomenon which has a value in itself for a time, sure but is not really transcendent to the point where I feel Ross's undying love is particularly justified. She comes up short on really finding/coming up with really memorable melodies and hooks, which don't bastardize her previous work, or rely on cheap sound effect gimmicks and costumes to get over. She's impossible to look away from but has made no real novel contribution to the genre. Basically the Gwar of pop.

A good bunch of Madonna's songs which are over 20 years old now, quickly became and will continue to be iconic traditional party/dance songs for the foreseeable future at this point. I don't think that Gaga will ever come close to that. Ten years from now, she will be an "also ran", with maybe at best 1-2 singles in regular party rotation.
