Oh - Zone One - I forgot about that! That is fantastic - I might make it equal first as WWZ's scope and quality is unreal. Actually fuck it your right - Colson is a much better writer than Max Brooks and Brooks should be number two for the addendum book for WWZ where he crossed vampires into the WWZ universe.featherboa wrote:Anyone body read that colson whitehead zombie book? that's the best high-falutin' one i know about.

you're pretty much exactly right.Cryptoplasty wrote:I stopped watching this show for good right after the mid season break.
I'm going to guess that absolutely nothing happened since then, and....
I might be wrong, but history says I'm not.SPOILERSPOILER_SHOWthey ended the bat scene on a cliffhanger, and they will drag it 3-4 episodes into the next season before the reveal.
RE: "everyone loves this show and is still gonna watch it." TWD's ratings were down this season for the first time ever, and I think that's gonna continue. the writers have basically always jerked the viewers around, stalling with throwaway episodes, etc., but this season it got way worse. multiple BS cliffhangers, totally nonsensical character development... no good.

Re: The Walking Dead (now it starts)
I think the problem is overexposure of the product with that Fear the Walking Dead garbage. Not only was it so awful it may have killed a few fans off, but it created too much none stop zombie viewing on TV. Juxtaposition does wonders. If Major League Baseball was on 365 days it wouldn't be around anymore.Spooky Apparition wrote:

I still think it was the best season they've done. But 16 episodes is way too many. Too many opportunities for stalling and coasting and its been like that since the second season

Agree - second half of the season improved the tempo a bit by bookending meandering story lines with some decent action or plot movers so I think they're refining the recipe a bit.FVBTVS wrote:I still think it was the best season they've done. Re ratings: from the first Google news search on series 6 ratings
There's a few seasons left in it even at this rate I reckon - they will can Fear before TWD to try bump it - I would like to see the Whisperers before the show finishes.Despite a Season 6 that has seen dips and declines from the series’ previous ratings pinnacles, the show based on Robert Kirkman’s comics is still far and away the top-rated series on all of TV. Within the confines of this season that has just ended, Sunday’s finale was the second-most-watched episode of the entire run, with only the 14.63 million viewers of the 90-minute Season 6 premiere of October 11 last year doing better. Among 18-49s, TWD’s Season 6 opener, which was down from the year before, drew a 7.43 rating with 9.4 million watching in the targeted group

"Here's how this is gonna go" is officially bad television now. Justified is the only show that ever made good use of it, when the guy got shot in the head before he could even finish saying it.

Totes brutes
For the comic readers/people who have watched it
For the comic readers/people who have watched it
SPOILERSPOILER_SHOW
I predicted that Abraham will get it and that leaves Sasha to hook up with Ezikiel because Michone is with Rick now. Then they went and doubled down. They did well because they got maximum brutals out of sacrificing two characters which keep the narrative of the comic book in the main. Good shit. The zombie looked as dangerous as a goldfish after they jumped in the car, it was a nice touch to have it have a feed on the face and brain leftovers for extra brutes.

Re: The Walking Dead (now it starts)
setting aside that they should have just killed abraham at the end of season 6 and then opened with glenn getting it....
I thought that episode ruled. partially because of how outraged people are about the violence glenn's death was definitely sickening, but effective. not having read the comics, i have no idea where things go from here, but Negan is entertaining as shit and already seems like he's injected a lot of life into the show.

there needed to be a foil that wasn't just more dead people; existential dread wears thin real fuckin quick without agency
negan was a little cartoonish at points but at least he's understandable in a grander sense

From an empirical viewpoint, the problem with Free Will (and causality) is reconciling determinism and freedom to make sense of morality.
