I finished Dhalgren about a month ago. Good book but a bit of an endurance test to say the least.

In Watermelon Sugar - annoying hippie bullshit for the most part. Some of the contrasts between the surrealistic dopeyness and the stark violence is really jarring which I enjoyed.

“Filth” - Irvine Welsh 10/10
Was a bit tedious at times but the crescendo to the end more than makes up for it. Far more depressing then I would have thought.

The Acid House - Irvine Welsh 9/10 a few of the stories felt like filler but most were great. “A Smart Cunt” ends with a sickening thud. He really seems to have a knack for that.

Re: Latest book you read (1-10 scale)
I finished the trilogy a few days ago. I enjoyed it. The sense of dread felt genuine and the emotionally manipulative stuff in the second and third book managed to be depressing. The ideas of dissolving identity is fleshed out much more. Don’t expect any resolution into what is actually happening if you read the rest of the series. It’s asks 100 questions and answers none of them.Necrometer wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2017 11:38 am annihilation 6.66/10 this is a decent, short book. fantastical sci-fi that's basically a hybrid of Stalker, Lost, and Sphere. there's two more books in the trilogy and I just read their wikipedia pages... the ex machina guy is making this into a movie starring Natalie Portman so I thought I'd check out the source before I inevitably see the adaptation. pretty curious how well this will translate to the screen...
