Jon Ryan Schaffer of Iced Earth arrested on federal charges at the Capitol Riots
Story:
Federal investigators believe Jon Schaffer sprayed U.S. Capitol Police with "bear spray" as he and other rioters forced their way into the Capitol building. Photographs from that day allegedly show Schaffer wearing a tactical vest with a baseball cap that read "Oath Keepers Lifetime Member." The Oath Keepers is a far-right militia that is known to target and recruit law enforcement and military personnel. According to court documents, Schaffer traveled to Washington, D.C., with
other Oath Keepers shortly after the 2020 election to participate in the "Million MAGA March." In an interview that day, he was asked if he expected the protests to be violent. "If somebody wants to bring violence, I think there’s a lot of us here that are ready for it," he said. "We don’t want that, but if they bring it we’re going to respond to that, trust me.” Schaffer is the front man for the heavy metal band "Iced Earth," and according to court documents "has long held far-right extremist views." He has referred to himself as an "anarchist" and called the goverment a "criminal enterprise."
Database
They should put out an album of Storm the Capital metal.

He has some dogshit side project called Sons of Liberty that is pretty much Storm the Capital metal. This guy was always a huge fucking nerdy loser but he really went off the deep end once they stopped writing about comic books and hell and more about history and "liberty". I was a big fan of IE and D&W (until about 2003) but now I'm never listening to either again. Fuck him.

Also, what kind of dumb fucking name is "SET ABOMINAE" for your "mascot/character". The Something Wicked Trilogy/albums made no fucking sense lyrically. He's not even a GOOD nerdy lyricist or storyteller and his bible is "The Creature From Jekyll Island.

Re: Jon Ryan Schaffer of Iced Earth arrested on federal charges at the Capitol Riots
I've got a lot of nostalgia for 90s-early 2000s type heavy metal... shit that wasn't quite power metal, but kept the Iron Maiden/Dio torch burning during some pretty dark years for that sort of energy. Doing what he did, and doing it so fucking well, during the era where the whole world had committed to this narrative that straightforward, earnest, and silly music like that was a thing of the past... it's really pretty admirable. Not even a big Iced Earth fan really, just something I've thought about over the years.
This whole story is pretty unfortunate... I really hope it turns out that he didn't actually hurt anyone. Not holding my breath...
A few years ago this thought popped into my head, that any sufficiently complex political ideology is nothing bit a bit of wiring connecting whatever a person is most afraid of to the absolute worst that they're capable of a person. I think that's a kinda crazy thing to think, but I can't ever quite shake it entirely.

Re: Jon Ryan Schaffer of Iced Earth arrested on federal charges at the Capitol Riots
Given that Iron Maiden and Metallica are my two favorite bands of all-time, no shit I enjoyed Iced Earth musically very much. But around 2003 he stopped even attempting to write creative riffs and started focusing more on the songs and hooks, and that's where their quality dropped off DRASTICALLY. I enjoyed Dystopia a lot when it came out but the more I got into the lyrics I realized "oh this album is about how Obama is a terrorist trying to take our freedoms, isn't it?" and it just was really hard to get into it or any of the albums that have come since. I like Stu Block's voice a lot and he was a good fit for them but the songs just weren't there.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:18 am I've got a lot of nostalgia for 90s-early 2000s type heavy metal... shit that wasn't quite power metal, but kept the Iron Maiden/Dio torch burning during some pretty dark years for that sort of energy. And I think your theory about ideology tying into fear is 100% correct. I mean, go back to "Colors." I always assumed it was about the movie of the same name, but now it clearly reads lyrically as "Fuck the darkies they are trying to rob and kill us all." It basically reads like "The Central Park 5 Are GUILTY, ACTUALLY: The Song"

Ah, yes, the enormous testicles required to throw a tantrum when something doesn't go your way, get your dumbass taken into custody (mostly because you couldn't resist the allure of PAY ATTENTION TO ME AND MY CUTE LITTLE COSPLAY UNIFORM ON SOCIAL MEDIA PLEASE!) and then engage in a campaign of "boo hoo, poor me, life's not fair, this is all someone else's fault" when it becomes painfully apparent you might have to account for your laughably poor decisions.Erik13 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:54 amFuck him for what? I can trace my ancestry all the way back to historic germanic tribal chieftains in fact.

Big dawg erik would have driven his mustang right up to Nancy Pelosi office like in Action Jackson after using a beer keg for a battering ram. He might bleed to death from a paper cut though so he had to sit this one out.

Re: Jon Ryan Schaffer of Iced Earth arrested on federal charges at the Capitol Riots
Ya know, some dumb garden variety heavy metal guy being duMM is one thing.. but what amazes me is, this is a guy in a band that played allover the world (I'm assuming that, since they had a triple live album from Greece), has seen living conditions in "socialist" places like Norway, Sweden and Denmark, just to name a few...and other "socialized medicine" countries.godofdeadlydeath wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 5:53 am He has some dogshit side project called Sons of Liberty that is pretty much Storm the Capital metal. Travel in lots of ways the ultimate education...how do you manage to learn nothing?
I get why pissed off white poor (too lazy to learn any job skillz, just steaming about feriners steeelin there jobs) would fall for foxnews propaganda. But fuck people that have had the life experiences to know better are a whole other level of idiot.
Disclosure, seen Iced Earth once.. on a bill with some other bands, enjoyed some of the early stuff...never kept up, nor had any idea dude was such a shithead.
I think Ripper Owens was in the band for a while---and pretty sure he's a card carrying fox newser trumper retard as well.

All I know about this band is they inspired some chooch to make 2 or 3 map pack/mods for original Half-Life naming one Iced Earth and would quote
them in game. Mod was decent enough. I’m an old man now and love me some Maiden and can’t be bothered with the noise/sludge/grind bore of much metal anymore. Also huge do not want to silly Dungeons and Dragons rock opera. Worth looking into for Maiden’s sake, or just give up and hope iTunes releases the audio version of what music is in 4K for Seventh Son one day? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is why I'll never not love the first Hammerfall album. They got a lot of hate years later when it was popular to play this kind of shit again, but everyone forgets how when that album came out, it seemed like nobody in the universe wanted to hear this kind of music ever again, and Hammerfall was just a bunch of lanky geeks from Sweden with an album that sounded like they recorded it in a weekend, hamming it up on stage doing Accept poses and grinning from ear to ear every minute of their show because fuck it, this is fun.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:18 am I've got a lot of nostalgia for 90s-early 2000s type heavy metal... shit that wasn't quite power metal, but kept the Iron Maiden/Dio torch burning during some pretty dark years for that sort of energy.
