I like how Kevin Nash was in the movie for about half a minute and his character didn’t do anything besides get told to either take a walk or get shot in the head.

White Noise (''22) - 6/10 - I liked The Squid and the Whale, but haven't seen much else by Noah Baumbach. This was a weird one that I still haven't made up my mind about. I liked the premise, performances, and cinematography, but the writing waivered between annoying and funny.

Chinatown ('74) - 10/10 - First time seeing this, and boy it sucks that the director is such a piece of shit.

Arrival ('16) - 8/10 - Villeneuve is one of the best going, IMO.

Roadhouse ('89) - 7/10 - My wife had never seen this, and I don't think she was all that impressed. I, on the other hand, enjoyed every moment of Ben Gazzara's psychopathic character more than ever before. The movie itself is goofy all around, but there's also Terry Funk.

The Harder They Come ('72) - 8/10 Jimmy Cliff going from country bumpkin to dancehall star to drug dealer to the most wanted man in Jamaica. A soundtrack of classics and guerrilla filmmaking. Really dug it.

Saw this for the first time the other day and it’s awesome. I never realized how much it was parodied in Roger Rabbit.

I had been meaning to rewatch Who Framed Roger Rabbit and picked up a copy really cheap last week. When I read your comment, I thought - "This guy probably hasn't seen many noir movies or something...? It CAN'T be true that they lifted from Chinatown." But lo and behold, I rewatched a couple nights ago and you're 100% correct. The double crossing and misdirects are almost straight up ripped off.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? ('88) - 6.5/10 - I didn't like it much when it came out so I don't have any nostalgia coloring my opinion now. Pretty incredible technical achievement for the time, and as a result, advanced FX techniques for years to come - but the writing just isn't all that strong. I appreciate Bob Hoskins really giving it his all - it's the glue that holds everything together and without his performance, could have easily fallen flat.

I think it's one of those cases where it had so much hype and a big merchandise push that it could never live up to my expectations as a 13 year old - so it left a bad taste in my mouth. But I can't fault anyone for loving the movie. There's some insane performances, a ton of gags (albeit most were kinda tired even at the time) and was a complete spectacle.

I was going down the rabbit hole ( no pun intended ) of the connection between the Jake Gidis character and Roger Rabbit. Apparently there was supposed to be three movies. The Two Jakes and then the third one was never produced but it was allegedly supposed to be titled “Cloverleaf”

Bob Hoskins was said to have had hallucinations of Roger after working on the movie.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ('23) - 6/10 - It was alright, but not exactly memorable for me.

Night of the Comet ('84) - 6/10 - This needed a heavier hand with editing. I think it could be a pretty fun movie if the pacing issues were solved. Too many long and pointless shots. You can feel the early MTV influence, as there's a lot of songs jammed in and shots that look like video filler of the time. It makes very little sense, but has some charming qualities.

Sicario ('15) - 8/10 - Second watch for me, and it's still very good.

Super Snooper [aka Super Fuzz] ('81) - 7.5/10 - Cop tries to scare an alligator out of his canoe by firing a shot into the air, which hits an experimental warhead causing a massive explosion, dosing him in red plutonium radiation (I think?). Anyway, the cop (who has a pretty strong European accent) gains superpowers that include premonitions of the future, psychokinesis, bulletproof skin, and whatever else helps move the plot forward -- but if he sees something (anything) red, his powers disappear. Ernest Borgnine is his partner who doesn't seem to think he has powers, or is just annoyed by them - I don't really know. Written and directed by Sergio Corbucci who is responsible for classics like Django and Navajo Joe. There was a time when this played on HBO constantly, but now it's on Prime with a transfer that's blurry and formatted in 4:3.

Army of Darkness - 7.5/10
Hadn't seen this in 25 years, it's still a lot of fun, even if it's a bit too silly/ slapsticky at times. Reminds you of how Evil Dead 2 has the perfect amount of dark comedy. Also, it's a bit unfortunate they were going for a PG rating, I wish it had as much gore as ED2.

Ideally, society should be organized via a warrior-priest aristocracy.

I can trace my ancestry all the way back to historic germanic tribal chieftains in fact.
