Kick Me (2023) 10/10
I was having a hard time deciding if this deserved a zero or 666 fucking skulls. This is like something written by people who gorged themselves on the most deplorable adult swim content from the ages of 9 through 14 and if the Harold and Kumar movies and pee wee's big adventure were directed by gaspar noe. The movie features at least two three legged dogs which if were not created by a good combination of digital or practical effects is rather disturbing.
I noticed in the credits the character of Mrs Peacock was actually played by a man and I looked up the actor who appears to have died at the age of 40 which makes the movie seem even more surreal and fucked unless this is a different person who happens to have the same distinct name, plus the themes of Kansas City MO and Kansas City Kansas are involved in the movie

Final decision for the 10/10 was based on the fact that the main character looks like a Mexican version of exploding head guy from scanners.

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
I got this blu ray a while ago because I'm a Schrader simp... but haven't watched it yet - don't think it's the wife's bag. Road Games showed up in the mail yesterday, and I'm hoping to get to that soon as well.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One ('23 | 163min) - 5/10 - Chris McQuarrie keeps getting worse and Tom Cruise just wants to do stunts before he can't anymore, I guess. An all-seeing, all-knowing AI threatens the world and it seems like whenever anyone realizes something about it, the camera spins around them. It's fucking long and pretty spiritless. What I liked: Shea Wiggam and Rob Delany's cameo. I guess there's some good stunts... but most of them looked more like CGI rather than anything actually dangerous.

Re: Latest movie you watched (1-10 scale)
It kind of baffles me how Cruise seems to think if he does a stunt and then they replace the entire environment, it matters whether he did the stunt for real. It's still going to look fake, so at that point you're not doing it to make the movie better, you're doing it for bragging rights and marketing.

Mean Streets - 10/10
Hadn't ever seen this before. I'm not going to belabor the precise humidity of water here, but holy shit, what an absolutely glorious movie.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers ('78 | 115min) - 9/10 - I didn't remember much about this - it's been at least 35 years since I've seen it. Things I didn't remember: Spock and Jeff Goldblum have significant roles, the opening alien scenes hold up surprisingly well, yes - that is Robert Duvall as a priest on a swingset, the score is great, people used to wear half gloves - what the fuck?
Siege ('83 | 84min) - 9/10 - (rewatch) Jeremy Saulnier must have used this as inspiration for Green Room, because it's got a lot of similarities. Nazi kids fuck with a gay bar but screw things up and need to call in their Nazi daddy to get things straightened out. I watched the blu ray, but it's streaming free on Tubi, so if you're in the mood for a Carpenter-inspired, low budget, Canadian anti-fascist flick, it's worth a watch (and it's pretty short).
