Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
This is the furthest I’ve gotten in DOOM II in years. I probably last beat it 1999 or 2000. I like what Sargent MK did with the earth levels, seems somewhat like a city now. Strange thing, I’ve always said DOOM II is better than DOOM I, but I might have to reverse that decision. Sure sure, super shotgun, Revenants, Archvile, blah, blah, but the actual level design after the first few levels are like nonsensical geometric messes. And there is platforming of sorts which I did not remember. Oh, Brutal Doom + Barrels o’ Fun is fucked up. Still, overall it’s the best, Jerry. The best!

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Yeah i feel the same honestly.
Doom 2's first 10 levels or so are fucking peak, but the more complex city type levels aren't really enjoyable. I feel like it gets much better again after that, but there's definitely a momentum killer zone in the middle.
Doom 1 is much breezier, and the goofy levels that people disliked at the time have a novel charm now imho.

Idk if you ever saw it but Sarge released a remake of Doom 1 episode 1 which is fucking insane, a little buggy but highly playable. Designed for BD

Had no idea. Will get to it if I remember, I need to review this whole topic, honestly. There are things I posted that I can’t remember.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2024 11:27 am Idk if you ever saw it but Sarge released a remake of Doom 1 episode 1 which is fucking insane, a little buggy but highly playable. Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Beat DOOM 2 Brutal Edition. I have mixed feelings on the new Icon of Sin. Sure the original version was annoying and a let down, but I didn’t like this brutal version much either. I think the bastard has too high a hit point count. I died over and over even with save scumming. Eventually, I had to summon the Unmaker (which I never found on this run) and that gave me enough of an alternative ammo source to kill the bastard.
I’m probably taking a Doom break as I have other first person business to take care of, including Half-Life mods, but when I return do I Sigil or do I DOOM 64?

Cool looking maps like this are worth a go with a custom weapons mod:

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
Which one? "DOOM 3"? I'll play it, but fuck them for the whole "this is the real 3 derp!" crap. DOOM 64 is the real DOOM 3, while the real titled DOOM 3 is an excellent remake done Half-Life style.Eight Bit Alien wrote: ↑Fri Oct 11, 2024 6:10 pm it looks so fucking good. Downloading now.

I just read something that "DOOM 3" uses new monsters and weapons so it's probably not Brutal compatible. I will try it with a gore mod, though.

Re: EBA's DOOM megathread
I tried the first two levels. First level was fine, kind a touch too sparse with ammo, Level was a touch novice, but it gave me hope. Second level though, great first impressions with graphical tricks, then it became a slaughter map with not much ammo, it's too fucking long, there's a hundred buttons to press outside of key collecting, and there's a literal maze, there's a part that's pitch black with invisible Pinky demons...
