Well the point of the center track is to prevent mud buildup against the edge of the sprocket. It's also allegedly designed to shed debris, but I haven't seen that in action.

More cool shit:

belt tension combined with center channel should effectively keep the mud squished out. i imagine that belt isn't your run of the mill rubber that will stretch and slip just because it's a little wet.

My friend sold his fixie last summer. He had fun on the velodrome, but aside from that he realized there's just not much point to it. The "feels like part of the bike" BS wasn't worth it anymore. I'm sure he got more for it then than he would now.

I still like the Mosh BMX bike I got as a kid, although I'm clearly not going very far on it. I'd love the 3-speed folding bike my ex has.

Are they better than single-speed freewheel in any way? I'm all for as simple as possible. I guess a freewheel is slightly more complex...

I've switched over to fixed for winter because ice sucks. I'm using carbide spiked commercial tires instead of homebrewed spiked ones, and I do use a front break. Back tire is a normal slick, and the bike is ugly and rusty. Ice in the beard looks like semen when I get to work.
