The artist who did those books has done a bunch of other stuff, almost all in that style. Those books kept me up for periods of 50-some hours as a young kid. Eventually I learned to draw a bit like that... or I guess I should say, those illustrations have absolutely influenced the way I draw.

A guy I knew was trying to contact him to do the artwork for his album cover, but I have no idea what happened to him. Dropped off the map.

I have a few more of those scanned if anyone wants.

Stephen Gammell, yeah, ive seen his other work... absolutely astounding. PLEESE SCAN MOAR

i found a hardcover copy of the first "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" in my neighbor's yard as a kid. It was a library copy that was all fucked up... i, like you, spent SO MUCH TIME reading that and the other books of the series as a kid, damn were they good. some of Gammell's illustrations scared the fucking shit out of me.... i can vividly recall having nighmares about some of them... mainly the story about Sam, and the story about the priest who exorcised a house and talked to the corpse of a murdered girl... fuuuuccckkkkk

i liked how a lot of the stories were funny too:
